Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

That's conditional, I imagine to an extent anyway; if x amount of games are promised to be aired but are not then they don't get the money.

Regardless, Sky and BT won't want to be the reason some clubs collapse. They'll push the boundaries to get their payday but I just can't see them crippling the leagues. It would be a prime case of cutting your nose off to spite your face

Read somewhere (can't remember where, I've read so much crap about all this recently that it all kinda blends into one) that it's not the threat of BT and SKY pulling their money, apparently they're "happy" enough to be flexible with the money they give the clubs since they're kinda symbiotic, however the foreign channels that have also got money invested in the Premier League BUT have no real affiliation to our country or our league (BEIN .etc.) are the major concern regarding the completion of the season and the legal ramifications there of.

Who knows how true that is, it could be "fake news" but that's what I read.

I've seen the same, that Sky and BT would be willing to negotiate for a few more games in the package for next season or whatever, it's the rest of the whole who already have that and aren't nearly as tied up with it.

Legal nightmare way beyond what my brain can understand, but I imagine much like at the start of all this when bars and restaurants weren't ordered to close, but the public were told not to go to them, if the government pull the plug all the legal stuff might go out of the window, but my guess is as good as yours whether that's the case or not.

How are we going to win it when teams playing us at home are going to have to isolate for 14 days before we play them, and if we play away we'll have to isolate 14 days on return ?

It's utter nonsense that it will get played anytime soon, oh and we aren't even yet through to the 1/4 final.

They will make a separate rule based on these batshit mental ideas. But assuming they go ahead with this crap...

The players will be all in permanent quarantine anyway
The players fly on private charter flights

Ergo- it’s totally controlled and safe(r) because it’s not public air travel etc plus their 247 covid tests they will have each day.

(Yes I think it’s all tosh- but I’m almost certain we will hear something like this)

Hotels ordered to stay shut until the beginning of July.

Where will all the players stay.

Or will they also be expected to travel, play travel. With zero preparation/recuperation.

I will never use their dodgy streams ever again! :)

Just caught 5 mins of GMB before having to turn it off due to Morgan. Just before they went to an ad break a very quick ticker tape appeared saying "Liverpool set to lift trophy as voiding season ruled out". Anyone see that or can add any further info

It says they're about to ' top the league ' but whether this means they'll be awarded a league title they never actually won, I just don't know.

Sky did an article on this. Apparently, even though it’s only based on a small number of games, home advantage win percentage actually goes up behind closed doors.

Look at it this way. Sunday league teams play with no significant crowds and yet play better on a home pitch than away.

Surely if the Government did the right thing and put the Prem out of their misery by saying..., “no way will football commence until Life is anywhere near back to some kind of normality” that would put an end to all the liable suits !!!!!
Going around in circles and very soon the hierarchy of the Prem will suffocate up their own arses

The best outcome failing null and void is awarding them the title, if it wasn’t tainted by VAR it will be now, the title they never won, fantastic, the flags the piss take will last a lifetime, imagine they don’t win it again for years, it will always be the false title.

I wonder if the government said to Masters and his cronies......"finish your season, but if any fatalities result because of it...YOU personally will be held responsible"

I bet they would change their tune.

6 hours on a coach, get changed in the car park and straight back on in dirty kit after for a 6 hour drive home lol.

Football isn't coming back and this is an exercise in being seen to be trying to do everything they can to do it but knowing they cant.
