Running thread

Hopefully - either that or I didn’t have a big enough dump before the weigh-in ;)

To be honest, I think doing next to nothing in the preceding 3 days wiped out most of the good work of the previous 4. Anyway, been back on it every day since Monday and doing the same routine of 3 stints per day on the treadmill, running the equivalent of around a 10k each day. I’ve sacked off doing one of the preset programs as the one I tried the other day wiped me out before I got half way through so it’s just 3 straightforward running stints. Happy to report I’ve lost a few pounds since Monday morning.

Interesting to read some of the experienced runners on here have days where they just can’t get going. I thought it would only be lazy fuckers like me who would have that issue.

You need to rotate what you’re doing mate for any gains and as for weight loss, slow and steady longer runs are better than short sharp sprints.
You can seriously overdo it and should take rest days even if they don’t want to just to give them time to recover.
I’m dividing days between the bike and running and having a rest day tomorrow before another 5k on Saturday as part of one of my running clubs challenges.

Sunday is when the law comes into force.

Today is the day I tried running with one. It’s 37 degrees in the shade. 45+ in the sun. Hard enough without a mask on.

I quite line running in warmer weather but not sure I’d like that too much!!

Cheers. I was thinking that I might need to mix it up a bit so might go back to doing one of the preset programs as they include a lot of walking/running up steep inclines. I’ll just make sure it’s not as difficult as the one I tried the other day.

Slow and steady runs is what I’ve been doing so all good on that front. It’s all about weight loss for me for now and once I’ve made significant inroads, will see where I go from there.

Point taken about rest days - I don’t want to overdo it and perhaps it’s become too much of an obsession of late. As long as I do a decent amount of time each week while having a couple of rest days, the weight should still come off over time.

Had a really lazy week so wanted to push myself today to get my head back into it. Managed just over 14k in 1 hour 16. Really happy with it but was about at the end of my stamina by the end. Feeling great now, but my legs are stiff as anything.
Really good that - I've done nothing all week and felt similar to you, got my gear on this afternoon to go out and sighted a repeat of Sundays 11k.

For some reason my Amazon music account was playing up so spent my time trying to fix that and never got out (like listening to stuff whilst out and about).

Excuse finding at its finest - feel sh1te and echoing my old school reports 'must do better'.........

Legs struggling to function today. Knees sore and thighs like daggers being stuck in them. Will have a rest today and then a short run tomorrow i think.

Thanks mate. I was hoping to do it this year but certain things pout paid to it so hopefully I can get a couple of weeks unpaid next year to add to my leave.

What did you do?
I did the national trail in New Zealand is 3000km North to South (called Te Araroa) plus plenty of other shorter 1week+. Nothing beats it for me, I think it's the feeling of the journey that is the most satisfying thing.

When I finished I said I'd never do anything like it again, now I spend my time trying not to, I miss it so much!

1 hour at conversational pace this afternoon for me.

Really enjoyed the feeling of "controlling" the run.

Can anyone recommend a good, reasonably priced GPS watch please?

Went out today and ran on roads and trails for 10 miles in around 1 hour 21. One of the roads was quite exposed and it was pretty awful with the sun beating down and having not taken any fluids, except a gel.

Sadly filled up with rubbish since, which I am really annoyed about.

Still, very enjoyable and no better way to spend a saturday morning.

Garmin Vivoactive 3 Music. Not too expensive, very accurate GPS, and holds lots of tunes. Can also be used at contactless terminals if you link a Santander account to it.

First run since the lockdown.
I run round Dovestone which meant it was off limits to me.
So i took it easy and let my whole body adjust to the run. First part of the run felt great. I was thinking, wow i've got so much energy.
Then that energy ran out!
So i did a bit of run walk run.
Towards the end, it got a lot better, which i didn't expect. Finished the run at a good pace.
No aches or pains, so i'm looking forward to getting back to normal.

What's the distance around Dovestones?

Easy does it bud and sensibly walking and running understanding your body is one of the most important parts of getting your body in shape. I normally do 10k a day walking and running but since the shit hit the fan I am down to 5k which I am happy with.

Some concerns I have noted whilst exercising is the amount of very overweight people who are running (I am most certainly not fat shaming) the impression is that they are not easing their way into exersize and might do themselves more damage than good.
