Running thread

Thanks i was all ready to do a lot of events Manchester marathon included but hopefully get them all done next year.
I live on my own so running is very important in keeping me mentally stable.
Fair comment, and a commendable attitude.

I did the Manchester half last year, which was a huge step for me, don’t think I could face doing the training schedule to get to a full. Do 5k pretty much every day in lockdown, and done 3 x 10k’s last year, which I was hoping to continue this year, but obviously corona has put paid to that.

Easy does it bud and sensibly walking and running understanding your body is one of the most important parts of getting your body in shape. I normally do 10k a day walking and running but since the shit hit the fan I am down to 5k which I am happy with.

Some concerns I have noted whilst exercising is the amount of very overweight people who are running (I am most certainly not fat shaming) the impression is that they are not easing their way into exersize and might do themselves more damage than good.

I saw 2 women running together when I was out doing my run yesterday.

I'd say late 30s, both well overweight, both going way too fast and both gasping for breath and red faced as fuck.

Fair play for having a good go but I bet they're both a right mess today.

I managed 12k on Saturday, and 11k yesterday, and I'm pretty tired now.

Whilst running, I listened to The Railway Children by E Nesbitt - a throwback to bygone times, when life was simple, innocent, happy. It was also about to be disrupted by WW1. A very enjoyable book though.

What app do you use for audio books? I was looking at Audible, but just seems really expensive.

For audiobooks I use a Sandisk bluetooth MP3 player, as it is very small, and has a clip so it stays attached. For music, I use my Garmin Fenix watch.

Headphones are AfterShokz Aeroplex, which are just fantastic for running. They sit in front of the ears, so don't exclude outside noises and signals.

I get my books from Audible and other sources and convert them to MP3 for the player.

they can rest in the car que for Burger King today

Went out today and ran on roads and trails for 10 miles in around 1 hour 21. One of the roads was quite exposed and it was pretty awful with the sun beating down and having not taken any fluids, except a gel.

Sadly filled up with rubbish since, which I am really annoyed about.

Still, very enjoyable and no better way to spend a saturday morning.
Atleast you 'earnt' the filling up of rubbish first.......

Might have to find a recording of The Twits ;-)

My 20 year old son has recently started to run regularly and we have an ongoing 5K challenge. He has reduced his time by over a minute since we started and his current best is 22.45. I had a bash on our course this morning and knocked a bit more off my time to record 23:59. I entered the time into an age grading calculator to give 20.48 so I am still claiming victory!

Sadly this time is lot slower than my PB of 19 minutes in a race 20 years ago :(

Still recommend Joe Wicks for those isolating - he’s workout this morning was brutal.
on YouTube each day so you can do any time.

Got out for a 5k this morning, I was on for a mid 20s finish which would have been a PB but I was completely gassed by the end. I'm still happy to get a little under or above 30 mins.

With weight loss being the main goal, I have been cheating myself with the amount of drinking I do. I'll try to abstain this week. It's been a long time since I did.
