If it's true, and as it grows closer to being accepted, I predict that the majority of the world and certainly the British press, will start to put a negative slant on Messi. Of course, we will be criticised for it, but we expect that now. If there is no fee involved it will blunt their attack and they will just go after the wage factor.
I for one will sit in my armchair, with my brandy and cigar, stroking my white pussy and be wearing a self satisfied smile. Ha ha ha.
It's already started, mate.

Any article on Messi used to reference "the greatest player of all time".

Martin Ziegler's article today references "the most famous footballer in the world".

The "United can afford him but prefer Jadon Sancho" line is surely one of the must ridiculous in modern times?

Neil Ashton and David Gill have been working overtime the last couple of days.

Can’t believe yet but are we really signing MESSI ???

this will take our club to another level. I think the influence off the pitch will be much more. This will change the media narrative as well. The PL will be marketing the hell out of Messi as he also increases their brand.

Messi accelerates the progress of the club a few years and he’ll probably help us deliver the CL finally. Not to mention all the wonderful football we will be watching. Messi with De Bruyne will not be fair.
Messi and de Bruyne, the Little and Large of our midfield.

Just have a look at his stats from last season and not just goals and assists. Add into the mix he’ll have better players around him too next season and won’t be expected to do it all on his own. Yes he’s lost some of his pace but still far from slow.

Some of those situations where we are playing two banks of five, he would be quality in moving the ball in those tight situations and the ball sticking to him. We might get penalties on par with the rags.

Other thing he brings is a presence in the dressing room, we’ve been crying out for that since Kompany left. This guy demands it out of people around him.

Of course he isn't the player of 5 years ago but he's still got them magic feet, a turn of pace and can score a goal in a heartbeat.
He's box office on and off the pitch, we get him and we're elevated into another dimension.
It's a no brainer.

Agreed, he's a once in a generation player- you don't turn your nose up at that.

He'll just be on the bench with Foden and bernado while we watch mahrez,Gundogan and Rodri stroll about. Pep will probabltuse him as a makeshift left back as the ultimate replacement for delphinio

Sorry chaps, I know ur not gnna like this. But I would seriously be happy if he went to PSG than us. The pressure is way too much for the club. At PSG he would piss all over that league, play in capital with Neymar and Mbappe. And would have a better chance of winning trophies. And better shot at champs league. Wouldn't have to play shit loads of games.

Over here he would be number1 target from the anti-city bandwagon. Opposing teams will try and kick him where possible, if we dont win the league media will start attacking this team "we beat u with Messi in your team" etc etc.

Great player, love him. But really we need to learn to walk before running. Baby steps.
LOAD OF BOLLOX

Messi is the biggest sports star ever. He's a financial phenomenon.

We might get a load of fake fans in our stadium just coming to watch Lionel Messi, and it might be difficult to get a ticket to watch our side, and if you don't want that then go and support Hyde United.

If you want to be the biggest club in the world we need those fake fans to buy our merchandise like they do over the road at the swamp or at Barcelona. Messi would catapult us onto a level we never thought we'd be.
I've personally got no interest in being the biggest club in the world. I couldn't give a fuck.

If anything, I'd rather we stayed the size we are, kept a committed fan base and still got to see the best football.

Anyone who goes to the game regularly will tell you, adding a load of tourists to the crowd numbers doesn't make for a better experience.

€200m for a player for just 2 years, fcuking hell.
Fcuk it, it's not my money

I wouldn’t give much credibility to the story...

Q. So Mr Khaldoon, do you think you might have to pay a fee to secure Messi?

A. Well, it’s beginning to look that way... we’ve set £200m aside as a contingency but we are hoping to convince Barca to settle for less !

This. We’d better start reorganising the club shop and make the mail order service bigger. Incoming orders will be off the scale.

I haven’t bought an official City shirt for years, I buy cheapo ones when I go to Asia every Christmas. But I would make an exception if Messi signs, name on the back and everything. I’d look like the biggest virgin going but fuck it.

I predict an epidemic of over aged full kit wankers.
