Leicester City (H) Post Match Thread

Our style of play is so stagnant at the minute and I don’t know why Pep doesn’t change some things. When he first arrived he realised it wasn’t working and set out to change some things and he did well but since then its same old same old and we’re too predictable

Football evolves quickly, the better sides who have good counter attacking players are becoming more resistant to Peps football. The method of strangling a team to death through possession is becoming less effective in its consistency.

Until Pep devises a new strategy against the better teams at home where we concede the ball to lure them out we are going to see the same
type of defeats over and over this season.

Honestly was dreaming last night about the game and in my dream we were beaten 7-2, Woke up and was thinking thank fuck it was just the 5!
Spanked by Leicester fucking City, And a pissy wet Monday morning going to work...Life is good folks!

Have a good day blues!

This is why I’m so angry because people are blaming the loss on not having a right sided centreback or players being injured but it’s the same shit thats been happening for the past year. The passing is slow and directionless and we do fuck all with it. So we’re left with 70%+ possession but whenever we lose it if’s almost guaranteed to be a goal
Did yer see the women's game beforehand? I should have known that it was a precursor for the 4pm ko. We have a style of football in the club, kids included, that fits the above exactly

I just don’t understand how Pep cannot see something is up, well I’m sure he can but why isn’t he doing anything about it. It isn’t like we have some really good and expensive players...

I often strolled up to the Etihad pre-Mancini and uttered a short silent prayer - "Please God, keep it to five!"

The number of these teams is also on the increase.

You could name 10 sides maybe more that either home and away would do to us what Leicester did yesterday.

You hope this loss will motivate Pep who no doubt is a proud man to reinvent the side for the better and much better at that.

I suspect this is his last year and like MP and Roberto before him our players might have given up on him.

Its definitely going to be his toughest season as a manager and already he has suffered his worst defeat home or away in his career and we are only two games into the season.

We stopped as if shot after 20 minutes which I haven't seen before under Pep for a long time.

If there’s a defence, as a fan I’m not up for it, it’s not even close to the football game we all know, empty stadiums, Covid 19 sweeping the nation again. Players testing positive, pep losing his mum, injuries ripping us apart, playing Garcia who has no interest in us, no pre season, the ridiculous internationals we’ve just had.
nothing is right for us at the moment and I personally knew yesterday was a tough game at the wrong stage.
it’ll improve for sure, Laporte, Dias, Ake, will sort out the back, Sergio and Jesus will sort out the front, but frankly there’s a massive negative around football and some might say, there’s more to worry about.

Right from the ko our pace was slow unlike the first half at wolves. Yes we scored but didnt really look like scoring again. Teams know to soak up our opening 20/45 minutes and start to have a go. I dont understand why we dont employ a sweeper sit deep dont give them any room to knock it over our back line. Instead we play a high line and say go on hit over us, and they do ! Yesterday 6 shots =5 goals no team in the world will win anything with states like that , and it's been happening for a good few seasons now. Just sit deeper.
Rodgers tactics weren't rocket science it's the way I would set up to play City defend deep and in numbers once City get tried or frustrated hit them with quick counter attacks. Why cant Pep see this ?

Oh well into work this morning were every non football fan will be taking the piss, they only say things when City lose big

Ps that's the first game I have watched without the xbox sound and it was horrible, it's not football, it's just bloody horrible, football needs fans. This season will turn out to be a farce

nail on the head.

football now is about fast powerful players getting the transition to shot as quickly as possible and If you can’t shoot run at full speed in the box and tangle your legs with the defenders and fall over.

we have not learnt to adapt to this in our attack , or more worryingly in our defence.

Pep shouldn't be allowed to linger on his decision when we are in a 'transitional' (code word for piss-poor transfer decisions) season. This will lead to more anxiety, recklessness and shitshows. How the fuck are the board okay with him deciding whether or not he 'deserves' it 3 months from now when we may be out of contention for all 4 trophies? Nagelsmann would take the job in a heartbeat and clearly Pep's tactics are getting easier to beat day by day. We need stability, direction and a long term plan. We have a manager who's unsure of staying, a board who are ready to cop out a 100 mil for a 33 year old but won't get a RCB in time for the league. Things have to change or we are in for a disaster season.

That's when the tough get going and show character.

It won't take long to see if we have any left because the season will be over very quickly if we don't.

9 points behind Everton most likely going into the Leeds game gives you some perspective on where we are at.

I think part of the problem is playing inverted wingers. This means our full backs have to push up high to provide width and leaves us more exposed to breaks. When we had the natural width of Sterling on the right and Sane on the left, our fullbacks could come infield into a midfield position and provide support to the DM in stopping breaks.

That and, of course, the main problem of a high line with no real pressing.

These two factors are costing us dearly IMO.

Can someone please explain to me, why the game changed as it did after around 30 minutes. Up until then we were fully dominant and in control, had a one goal lead. Leicester were defending with the entire team deep in their own half, Vardy was positioned like pretty much as a midfielder, and they looked like they were out classed... but then it changed.

Was it Brenda who made some tactical changes, which,if so?
And had Pep no counter change to make?
Was it our squad who got tired after only half an hour?

It amazes me how a game can change so drastically. Sure, it's a huge part of what makes it such a great sport to watch, but this is a bit too much. With their first goal we looked defeated, almost like we gave up.
Not pretty to watch.

First of all, our veteran player missed a sitter and then he got skinned by a pirouette. Walker decided to give away one of the stupidest penalties I have seen. Why on earth did he decide to foul him rather than let him shoot from that position? Pep alluded to it, fucking trust your keeper in those situations. Walker made an impossible shot to score into an impossible one to miss. These things give confidence to opponents. It happens too often and our response is the problem. For some reason there is a massive problem with our mentality. Once we have the lead we tend to always lose if someone turns it around. That is a problem with mental strength. This has nothing to do with tactics. We need a psychiatrist or players that are not bottlers. For the record other two teams suffer from this as well (Spurs, Arsenal, United).

He was badly at fault for three of the Spurs goals over two legs in the champions keague. too. Iffy against the rags. That's just off the top of my head.

I know it won’t be a popular opinion on here but he doesn’t make big saves. Not saying he should save penalties but I never expect him too. The Vardy goal at the near post was just great play bu Vardy in my view.

Cheers.
So did Brenda made the tactical decision to sit back during the start of the game, only to slowly love the team up the pitch and exploit our weak(er) players?

I'm asking cause I'm really interested and curious about how we somehow sometimes manage to switch from formidable to lost in just a few minutes. I don't really see such collapses from other top teams.

Rodgers came out and said it in his on pitch post match interview. He stated they knew that they would forfeit possession but had to sit back, stay compact and the press in their own half and counter quick

Pep has to now evolve, this tactic worked wonders when he arrived as it was not seen at a level he inputted. However this league is unlike any other, the teams and managers will adapt to another teams dominant formation.

We are at the point.

The same style nay work against some of the fodder in the league still but if we are honest ecen those teams can still carve out chances against us. It is only down to a lack of qyality they fail to convert chances or build a fluid counter-attack
