Leicester City (H) Post Match Thread

I have to disagree. Rodri was spot on about Leicester. They created 1 chance that came to a goal (their 2nd) and brought a bus with a prayer that it is their lucky day. We were the ones who capitulated. You can’t give away 3 penalties. That was absolutely pathetic from us and that could have happened against anyone.

if a team exploits your weaknesses and gets 3 penalties out of you and scores 5 goals, they did a good job and deserve to beat you. It's not their fault we've turned into one dimensional, psychologically beaten bottle jobs.

Ignoring the performance today, as infuriating as it was, it's clear to see our ridiculously high standards of 2017-2019 are now working against us.

The fact that Liverpool have managed to get up to those points totals adds so much more pressure to games.

10/15/20 years ago, points totals in the low/mid 80's would win you titles or at least have you challenging all season.

You could lose plenty of games, have shock defeats to shit teams, go a few weeks without winning etc. And it wouldn't be the end of the world.

Now simply losing the 2nd game of the season at home to the 5th placed team from last year feels like the end of the world, as realistically we all know we can now probably only afford to lose 1 or 2 games for the remainder of the season if we want to win the league.

We were shit.
The defence was shit.
The tactics were naive considering the opposition.

But its one game.
I wonder if bayern fans are being equally as reactionary to their 4-1 loss yesterday.

Put a decent pairing of Laporte and Dias in, one of jesus or aguero up top and for gods sake a LB that can defend(!) and that game goes a completely different way.
Well Bayern won the treble last season, not 19 points behind first, getting knocked out of cups to worse teams.

Agreed, and a point I have made in the past.
We have players more than capable of hitting teams on the counter be we are never deep enough to launch one.

Rogers adapted his style yesterday, Pep never does.

Whereas before teams were frustrated without the ball they have now adapted and evolved to not only be happy without it they are building systems and tactics around not having it against us.

Also on top of a lack of tactical flexibility there is also the issue of diluting the talent pool of the squad through poor recruitment.

I can 100% see similar patterns of defeat cropping up numerous times again this season.
City fans can take defeat of course we’ve seen many a loss, but what is going to frustrate everyone is the inflexible approach that’s applied.

I hope to god I’m wrong and someone quotes me at the end of the season with a nice big LOL though to be honest.

I know it won’t be a popular opinion on here but he doesn’t make big saves. Not saying he should save penalties but I never expect him too. The Vardy goal at the near post was just great play bu Vardy in my view.

He does make some great saves but they are a rarity rather than the normal. I remember ones at Palace and Everton away in particular. It is the savable ones he lets in that worries me. Yesterday I couldn't blame him for any of the goals and like Bravo in Peps first season with a defence like that in front of him anyone would be a bag of nerves.

Until Pep devises a new strategy against the better teams at home where we concede the ball to lure them out we are going to see the same type of defeats over and over this season.

Well we’ve spanked Liverpool, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Wolves recently:.. so maybe it was just a VERY bad day at the office rather than a deeper rooted problem?

we had 6 players unavailable and 2 players on the bench lacking match fitness , a total of 8 absentees , if we lose 2-5 at home with a fully fit squad i would be worried , but a fit Laporte , Gundogan , Bernardo , Aguero or Jesus would have changed the result. We also have Ake and Torres adapting to our style of play , even Stones and Cancelo would have been a better choice than Garcia and Mendy yesterday.
If Burnley or Leeds batter us ignore the above :)

Point still stands that anyone can be given 3 penalties like that. They were even penalties that did not have to be given away.

but they were, they exploited our tactical and mental weaknesses and got us frazzled to the point that we gave away 3, they deserve credit for that no matter how much we handed it to them.

Poor by Rodri moaning about the opposition doing nothing. They put 5 past us, thats partly on him as he was dreadful after Fernandino went off. You cannot moan about injuries when you have spent as much as we have. Quite simply half the team yesterday is not at the level required to compete anymore.

Competition in the German league is not the same standard. If you ignore that point then I can see your reasoning.

Any keeper left exposed as often will concede a lot. We have a lethargic, weak midfield that offers almost no protection to the defence.

Remember how the media built up de Gea as the best in the world, now look at him with slabhead and lindelof in front of him. Same with Eddie for us, the opposition get so much time to shoot because our defence is out of position because they're dragged everywhere due to our shit slow midfield that can't press or harry anyone.

Rodri needs to look at himself before calling out the opposition. He would look world class in Spain or Italy, but he doesn't have the pace or energy to play his role in England.

It's great having good technique and being able to pick out a nice threaded pass, but in England players need to realise they don't have the time on the ball, opponents are in their faces and not scared of reputations like on the continent. Barca and Real, Juve, etc have most opponents beat the moment they turn up at the stadium. Not so here. You need pace and aggression and a determination to win at any cost.

We need a couple of midfielders decent enough at passing but who mostly get stuck in, wind up opponents and can close them down before they have a chance to pass it over our high line defence.

Difference is though Doris,Bayern were on a record breaking winning run going back over a year.

We are starting where we left off last season, with the same mistakes.

This is the concern.

And we are only 2 games in

The way Barnes drove at our defence on occasions yesterday was criminal, zero closing down.
