La Roux - Let Me Down Gently
The Weekend - Blinding Lights
Chemical Brothers - Wide Open
Vance Joy - Riptide
Avicii - The Nights

The inevitable injury after six months of a really enjoyable return to running has hit my calf. I've tried a couple of easy flat runs, but around the 3km mark it really starts to pull.

I'm going to concentrate on gym work for the next couple of weeks to work on my core and legs while it repairs.

Any advice on calf strengthening would be much appreciated.

I'm the same with various pains on legs.

But i feel like i will just waste my good work if i dont keep running even with pain.

I got an email earlier today about entering the Manchester Marathon in 2021.

Never done a marathon before but have always wanted to. So I’ve registered and set myself something to work as motivation for the next year.
Got deferred to next years as obviously this years has been cancelled, I’m not that convinced it’ll go ahead if things continue, I certainly wouldn’t be signing up for anything else until I’m certain it’ll be going ahead, already about £750 out of pocket with events deferred until next year.
Anyway, good luck with training etc... hopefully see you on it.

Ive got a half signed up for 01st November at Stratford, if that cancels or delays then i'm not bothering anymore aswell

Enough is enough mate, times are hard and can’t afford to keep paying for things which just aren’t happening. Same with this virtual malarkey, not spending £20 to run alone just for a medal.

yep , it’s a nice idea and the organisers need the money - but one virtual race was enough for me. App didn’t work and just felt a bit of a con

I ran in this mornings 7am downpour. Fuck me that was heavy rain. Splashed by a van, foot in a puddle deeper than a canal... rotten and grim. By 9am dry and sun breaking through. Arrrrrgh.

I did the Heaton Park virtual half marathon at the start of lockdown. I only entered it to receive something tangible back for my first ever half marathon. I've done three more since (halfs, not virtuals) including one that included 1500m climb and descent.

Was in a v low mood last night so went fit a 5k run that turned into a half marathon.
Absolutely loved it (some decent music helped too).
Thighs really tight & painful today but otherwise I still have those feel good chems.
Avg pace of 5:23s per km (21.5km in 1hr56...not too bad).

This morning was perfect. Went out at 7.30am. Chill in the air so you could see your breath. Went through Withington, Whalley Range, Fallowfield Burnage Didsbury and back towards Withington. 12.3k at a nice easy 6.14/km Pace. Took an 1hr 17hr. My longest run ever that but slowing the pace down really the difference. Enjoyed it so much more.

Anyone else do funny things like look at peoples houses or gardens for ideas whilst you run? Today's observation is that printed concrete drives don't look great at all.

I do exactly that and our paths (printed paths) may sometimes cross.

quickie:
Thighs still a bit sore as of writing (ran this Friday evening) - worth trying a short gentle run this evening?

Also, when I got back from this run I felt I’d come down with flu. Sat freezing on the sofa, shivering and struggling to eat (and I was absolutely starving).
This passed after about 30 mins and I’ve had a nice buzz from it all weekend.

How does once a month or bi weekly sound for doing a half marathon distance?
Geared me up for a full marathon now.

Once a month running a half marathon distance could be a bit far depending on your typical weekly mileage and what you are training for. Your flu feeling was probably just exhaustion. Did you run it fast? Are you used to such a distance? Did you eat well before or during the run? Water? You ran for nearly two hours which is a lot in my book. Typically aim for one long run a week totalling 30% of your weekly mileage.

For me, my long run is roughly 6 miles and usually just under an hour. I'm not training for a specific event these days (last "race" was London marathon in 2014) so just run for fitness and enjoyment. This morning I did 11.4 km muddy trail run in 1 hour 10 mins. Great scenery in the sunshine. It was my longest run on strava !!! ......only had a smart phone and strava about 4 months......

Pace wise felt just about right. Slower than my 5-7k runs I do a few times a week. Didn’t properly eat/drink beforehand as I only intended doing a 5k.
Felt those feel good chems though and they lasted most of the weekend (which is why I’m keen to up my running game).

the idea of a marathon has (for the first) become more of a serious endeavour for me.
