and you have to remember two of the busiest airports in the world. It clearly reached and spread there first and far quicker than up here in March. Must be approaching 20 percent have had it down there now???
The ONS said 17% in London, but that is nowhere near enough "to let it loose".

It's already killed thousands in London, your approach would likely kill thousands more, and it's not just London, it's the whole SE region (currently relatively low rates, apart from a few pockets), as millions have to commute 1-2 hours into London on packed public transport, because they have no choice.

Really..? From the "unreliable" daily mail

Swedish economic activity has also started to pick up with the effects of the downturn looking less severe than previously feared.
The economy had shrunk by nine per cent but this too was less than the 20 per cent dip seen in the UK.
So when Sweden’s economy started to pick up that would equate to the UK’s last figures of an 11% drop and that situation hopefully improved due to economic activity in October.

I guess the real point is not the obsession with Sweden but what is strategy to overcome the virus And get our lives back to normal as best we can.
ignore the vaccine as we don’t know when or if that is coming so...

mine is ring fence care homes, protect support the vulnerable and everyone else get on with their lives whilst hand washing and maintaining some social distancing.

my sense is the majority view on bluemoon is get yourself a new computer, check your WiFi Is good and Everyone go into full Lockdown Until it’s safe to come out?
Really! Just the weekend gone I worked on Saturday, watched rugby and football on TV afterward; had a game of football on Sunday and followed that with a couple of pints in the pub.

Herd immunity, was tried in the early days and resulted in thousands of extra deaths in the UK.

My strategy for getting through this includes:
- keeping schools, colleges and universities open unless that’s impossible.
- maintaining people working including office workers doing so from home
- clearer messaging (remove 10pm pub curfew) and effective enforcement where pubs / restaurants don’t comply with the rules.
- continue to develop vaccines that’s likely to be a partial solution
- targeted economic support for hospitality and live events sectors.
- expand training for in demand areas eg IT skills and green energy.

I hope that is OK with you. In a perfect world we would have had Jacinda Ardern running our country to reduce the extra deaths but if people want to hero worship Bojo and Trumpy then so be it.

What if there won't be a vaccine?
Then the virus spreads at a slower rate so that the NHS can provide the treatment that is reducing death rates without being overwhelmed.

The likelihood is that there will be a virus but it won’t be a panacea. The current position is that peole who catch the virus might be vulnerable to catching it again after 6 months. It’s doubtful that herd immunity is possible without a virus to give protection for a decent chunk of society.

Presumably it’d be similar to the existing flu jab in terms of who was given it.
I heard on the radio yesterday that the vaccine researchers in Bradford said the flu jab has been on a bigger scale this year and they would expect a similar set up to roll out a Covid 19 vaccine.

I was listening to a professor early hours this morning he said we may never get a vaccine and have to live with this for 3/5 maybe 10 years was his words, I think the masks social distancing will be the norm for years to come and the world as we knew it will be a distance memory

that’s exactly what we are advocating !!!

herd immunity isn’t like having measles parties and licking door handles

the only additional thing I would add would be protecting the vulnerable and supporting them.

I would also want a return to spectator sports slowly slowly

but most all NO LOCKDOWN . It doesn’t work . It might have an affect of delaying transmission but thats it.

just in case you haven’t seen this

Germany, China, South Korea and Japan are all pretty big countries who appear to have controlled the outbreak reasonably well.
Not sure China can be put in that list!! No one knows their true figures at all.

As an aside, remember the start of this and people were literally dropping dead on the streets of China, did that happen anywhere else?

did that happen in China ?

you don’t believe their numbers but believe their videos ?

I’ve got another question.

Are peole who are going on holiday and complaining about the state of the UK economy having a staycation?

i'll always happily warn against interpreting one graph in this very complex situation, so from this one graph alone we could perhaps interpret;

-a clear difference in cases per 100k per region (we know that)
-a non-significant difference in triage cases per 100k per region (at the moment)
-a ratio of triage to cases per 100k of less than 1 in the north and over 2 in London.

so, surely this tells you that testing rates are lower in the capital? people are still going through the NHS in London, less per 100k than in the north but at a higher rate than known cases?
