COVID-19 — Coronavirus

I’m not talking as much about individuals in each other’s houses for example but keeping pubs in order to protect the decent ones, businesses following regulations and people’s attitude on public transport. It’s seems pointless increasing more restrictive measures if a blind eye is being turned to the ones we already have.

I wouldn’t let anyone enter shops without a mask, a face shield or a doctors note. Same with public transport.

Pubs not following rules get shut down same as businesses. People can be employed to check on pubs and businesses. Transport can be told no one enters a bus or train without these measures.

You can use Covid marshalls(yet to see one) police even the army it’s possible to do. No more advisory shit. The government have been very weak almost to the point where i think it’s on purpose. This tier 2 and 3 nonsense isn’t going to drastically reduce anything.
Was in Anglesey last Saturday night and the hotel bar was spot checked by police.

So what’s the score with workmen coming to your house etc? Is that not allowed now?
It’s allowed atm.
Personally, I would only have emergency work done but it’s your choice.

Can workmen come to my house?

As it stands, workmen will be allowed into your house wherever in the country you live.

If you live in a tier two or tier three area, which are ranked as “high” and “very high”, you can still have workmen coming to do work in someone's home.

absolute idiots. I have just been to a non league game won’t say which bit the distancing was very poor and only a handful wearing masks. What I found more bizarre was the number of people I saw shaking hands! Madness.
Live on the BBC as well, thousands would have seen that. Ref nearly fucked up the pen shoot out and lost count I think!

LIverpool is having more deaths than Manchester according to BBC news just now.

The age profile of those catching it is younger in Manchester - they claim - and has not yet spread as fast to the older generation as it has in Liverpool.

Might explain a few things if so.

But I susect it will spread there too as it seems to have crossed the generations everywhere and try as I might I could not persuade my friend today not to go out shopping with a young niece despite her being older than me and having breathing problems that exempt her from wearing a mask.

I tried hard to suggest she shop on line (she can use a computer) but she just wants to go out and says if its my time, its my time.

This I suspect will be true of many especially over Christmas. Shielding will be much harder to impose onto those who have already lost the Summer to it. Losing Christmas too will lead to many - this might be my last one so I am going to enjoy it type arguments.

Seems bizarre to me how much people seem to want to be locked away and their freedoms curtailed

Once we go into tier 3 lockdown we won’t come out it it before Christmas

Local pubs, communities etc will be destroyed and never recover

but schools and Unis will remain open when it’s ripping through student areas up and down the country

it’s an idealogical decision

If you could pick a past PM to lead us through this Covid crises who would you pick? (I think Boris is probably one of the worst, maybe Chamberlain would be worse)

Maggie would have scared the virus right back to China. It needed someone like her though willing to make swift hard choices as she did in the Falklands. Ideology matters less in these rare circumstances than steel and the ability to make decisions and get stuff done even if it is not palatable to those around you in cabinet.

Everything else less than average though, which is good. Excess deaths in home has stayed pretty consistent even with everything dropped right down in summer, maybe they are not covid deaths but the other deaths that are being caused as a consequence?
That’s what I’d imagine they are, although can’t know for sure.

Another one of the government's promises set to fail miserably. Operation Moonshot struggling to get off the ground. I for one am shocked. Truly shocked.
According to newsnight BoJo telling the party thats there’s not much chance of a vaccine any time soon. I wonder where that leaves us?

She was a total & utter arse, that's the best thing I could say about her but, she'd certainly have a plan and not just be throwing 'spagetti' at the wall hoping something stuck.

Hancock letting the cat out of the bag about the 10pm curfew. Not science but policy (Van Tam had already said the same). He then added that it’s reduced numbers going to A&E with alcohol issues, which he claimed was ‘good in its own right‘. Another law imposed unopposed which we might not get back for a while by the sounds of it.

I’m all for a 2,3,4 week or however long lockdown.
and as stringent as you can get. Close everything. Everyone stay indoors etc.

but I just know... after that period is up ... and we all slowly go back to work etc, pubs opening ... it will just be a matter of time before the sky breaking news yellow bar appears showing an increase in daily infections again, followed by the death toll.

it really feels like there’s no way of avoiding it. Just delaying it is all we can do.
