yes me too. I have all year. Work in town and commute home. Never in my life have I heard so many sirens.
I live fairly close to a major trunk road.
There has been a major uptick in ambulance sirens over the last 3 weeks. At least 15 a day now. Normally 5 or 6.

Scotland also 11 deaths and 1433 cases. at 19.1% Up from yesterday.

985 in hospital (up 10 from yesterday) and 84 on ventilator beds (up 8 from yesterday)

Wales even worse

16 deaths (v 13 yesterday and 5 last week) and a record 1324 cases (v 761 yesterday and 674 last week)

So without N Ireland that is 212 daily deaths today. The most since May bank holiday. Just 6 weeks or so after we were at the peak of wave one.

We are saving lives now of people that would have died in the first wave. Which is good in one way but also rather concerning given how fast right now these numbers are going up.

I think forever we will be arguing (I know I will) that if we had done what Sage wanted a month ago we would not be talking about anything like this many deaths today.

I know it is up for debate and we will likely never know for sure and it was a tough call balancing lives and economy but this was a mistake imo that in the fullness of time will end political careers. Because errors in a pandemic have very visible consequences and are hard to forget.

Especially when there is more than one of them.

Not politics. I like Boris. I wish him well. But we are struggling to get these big calls right.

England's 185 hospital deaths in detail:

23 Oct adds 25 = 25 after one day. The highest first day total since 28 May. (Note the dates sliding inexorably backwards towards the April 9/10/11 peak of Wave 1)

22 Oct adds 87 = 107 after two days. 87 is the most added on day two since 14 May and 107 is the highest two day number and first in three figures since 21 May.

21 Oct adds 38 = 125 after three days. This is the highest total number of deaths on one day after even months of add ons since 27 May.

20 Oct adds 9 = 120 after four days. The highest four day total since 26 May. (Note all the worse since dates for ffour & five day death have headed backwards towards the April 10 wave one peak faster than ever over the last few days as these death numbers visibly skyrocket.)

19 Oct adds 7 = 102 after five days. After only one triple figutre number at 5 days in the previous 5 months this is the second in three days and of the days behind it only the day 1 total is not already over 100 and that day one is the highest in months so hard to expect it will not be over 100 by five days either.

The add ons after the 5 day period are rapidly increasing too as you can see: 18 Oct + 4 = 84, 17 Oct + 4 = 123, 15 Oct + 2 = 85, 12 Oct + 1 = 69, 9 Oct + 1 = 50, 5 Oct + 1 = 40

There were single figures add ons onto several days in September and even ones onto 21 May and 16 April.

Very sad day indeed in England.

But not much likelihood this is not going to go even worse in coming days.

I really hope that is one prediction I get wrong.

Northern Ireland data week to week to 2 wks ago

Deaths today 6 v 2 last wk v 1 two wks ago

Cases 923 today v 1031 last wk v 726 two wks ago.

Weekly total 6839

In hospital 309 (up 13 in day) v 231 last wk v 65 two wks ago.

On ventilators 27 (up 2 in day) v 22 last wk v 9 two wks ago.

So the UK hospital deaths today are a very sad 218. Versus 108 last week. And 48 the week before that.

In those two weeks the reported UK hospital deaths have more than quadrupled.

Unless this slows we will be looking at 500 deaths a day by mid November.

Let us hope someone knows what they are doing and it does.

Wish I had more faith that they do.

UK cases for the three nations without England today total a pretty high 3680.

Last week it was 2872 and the week before 2401. Not as hopeful as yesterday for the plateau effect.

Whitty was right , people should have listened

More areas moving up the tiers , fiddling whilst the country gets worse

I am not surprised the rate is up. Every day I see many people in shops not wearing masks. Just went past a barbers in Stockport and not one customer in there was wearing one! My local sub post office is terrible for that. But that’s the mentality of some of the people where I live.

The battle of ideas on here about the rise of deaths in the second wave not even being enough to count as a second wave a few weeks back has been rather silenced by events.
I never understood why there was any argument, it was obvious what would happen.

It's also clear that far too many are still not following the rules, so don't care for their own friends and/or families, which above all else I don't understand.

We have to get on with life, that I understand, but we can do that responsibly, and look after each other, there will always be people who shout "fuck the rules", but so many are being utterly selfish, it's a sad indictment of this country, and clearly it's not just this country either.

A man in Manchester has been given a £10,000 fixed penalty notice after police shut down a party with over 50 guests.

Officers were called to the large gathering on Simpson Street in Angel Meadows, which is northeast of the city centre, just after 11.20pm on Friday night.they found DJ mixing decks, industrial speakers and a buffet. The organiser was handed a maximum fine for the breach of coronavirus legislation.

A wedding in south east London with around 250 guests has been shut down by police, Attempts had been made to mask the celebration, including closing shutters at the front of the property

Same link as above , sky rolling news

What hope do we have when people wont stick to the fucking rules !

With everything that is going the one thing that seems to have eluded everyone is that the elderly and vulnerable need educating on how to wear a mask and how to follow one way systems in shops. Just been out and two people probably in their 80’s both with masks under their chins ignoring exit / entrance signs and huge arrows showing which way to walk around the shop, and as I type I watch my elderly neighbour opening the door to a friend and showing him inside. This country has to be the least compliant in the whole of Europe and arguably has the highest percentage of really dumb people for good measure. There will be no end to this, no easing of anything until a vaccine is here. And at that point the people who have been responsible for encouraging the spread will be stood at the front of the queue demanding they have it. Utter morons

Part of the problem is even well meaning people look at the restrictions and work them to the limit....rather than doing as little interaction as they can with the restriction limit as the ceiling.

*I think that reads as I mean it too.
