SAGE keeps saying superspreading events are the ones driving the virus, but their rules do little to stop these from happening.
You should only be able to visit a limited number of places in one day be they shops pubs or restaurants and if you go to these you can't visit the home of a friend.
But no they keep pushing utter balderdash and piffle.

What we should be doing , we fiddle around the edges instead and make it complicated , politically wedded to that plan now , we will suffer as a result of a u turn being political suicide

The current demand by SAGE scrouges for cancelling Christmas are are case in point.
At what point in modern history has there been a surge in flu over the Christmas holidays?
NEVER is the answer. The number of new cases at Christmas crash and only ramp up again in mid Jan when everybody goes back to work and school.
The answer is to close schools 2 weeks before Christmas and then have a normal Christmas. Cases from school contacts will have worked through by the time of the main event.
SAGE members have ZERO common sense.

It is not sage , they are being ignored

Here are the weekly Pop Scores - basically the cases per week evened out by matching them per 100,000 population (hence Pop - Population - scores). Letting you judge who is doing good or bad related to everyone else.

You can compare them with the ones given by the media every day that show numbers of all the worst impacted areas in the UK on their Covid Red Watch List.

This is what they use to decide when to enforce measures locally as the higher the number and whether it is rising steeply or not and for how long determines how much of a problem there is.

The day to day Pop Number can only go up day to day unless 0 cases are added but the weekly pop used on this list can rise or fall as it is a day to day comparison and so numbers can rise less from one day or week to the next. This is what the government watch out for when determining measures.

GM features heavily in recent lists as anywhere over 400 is usually on it. Though as cases rise so will that number to qualify to be in the top 10 'worst'.

The top few boroughs here are in the UK top ten.

This shows how each GM borough has moved in the past 7 days from day to day:

Bolton 454 462 488 531 545 556 562 - up 108 in wk Shows big hump mid week as cases rose. Then stabilised.

Bury 435 445 472 495 492 515 505 - up 70 in wk Shows how it plateaued and has started falling

Manchester 496 464 494 495 492 515 505 - up 9 in wk Shows a remarkable stability and lowest increase. This was very different the week of the atudent case numbers being added.

Oldham 467 473 529 547 596 620 644 - up 177 in wk Shows the biggest rise in GM onto Red Watch.

Rochdale 509 512 565 593 600 601 580 - up 71 in wk Recent days have stabilised and falling,

Salford 486 521 546 557 565 587 591 - up 105 in wk Fairly steady rises starting to slow.

Stockport 301 311 329 344 361 376 376 - up 75 in wk Lowest numbers in GM but steadily rising. Though even small increases and hint of a plateau. But was below 100 in August. As was Wigan.

Tameside 401 388 427 431 454 459 486 - up 85 in wk Rather eratic - good days and bad,.

Trafford 342 354 370 382 395 413 431 - up 89 in wk Possibly the most stable steady increases in GM.

Wigan 482 462 524 555 579 597 628 - up 146 in wk. Only Oldham has fared worse and both are over 600 and in the top red watch towns in UK.

We found out this evening that my Mum who’s on her own in Middleton has tested positive for C-19. She and a friend contracted it after being at a social club last week that should have been closed if the Manchester leader hadn’t delayed entry to Tier 3.. thankfully she seems to be on the mend.

The worst part about the whole scenario was later last week when a young couple attended the same club on Thursday with many others to help the owners “run down the stock” before T3 finally kicked in. The couple posted on FB on Friday morning that they had received positive test results that morning.. that means they potentially knew they could be positive when they attended the club the previous evening.. Diabolical when you consider that many of the regulars are pensioners who perhaps should have avoided the place but don’t see anybody from one day to the next in some cases.

I have no idea how they have the balls to show their faces after that

Have you not thought of volunteering your services as you seem to know fucking everything.
Facts hurt.
The fact is they supposedly want to stop superspreading events which THEY say result in 80% of cases.
Yet they recommend nothing that will stop them - just generalised restrictions that will enhance the population's depression.
Their very own statistics indicate that 5% of cases occur in restaurants and pubs - yet they insist on these being closed down but provide NO scientific evidence for why this should be the case. If they want the people to follow these guidelines they have to provide the evidence to show they will work.
45-70% of cases are stopped by people wearing masks. The better the masks are the less cases occur. There is published irefutable scientific evidence regardless of what the face nappy brigade think.
If the evidence for locking down is there, publish it. They haven't. Just because they think enjoyment lets our guard down and spreads the virus doesn't mean it does. It's pretty clear that closing pubs sends people into each others homes where social distancing isn't provided and tables arent disinfected. Probably a much worse position than if pubs were open.
They need to publish the evidence. I don't think they can because i don't think here is any.

And knowing all this, what would your advice be to your mum or anyone else?
I know what mine would be. I certainly wouldnt be blaming catching a highly contageous virus on someone who hasnt shut a social club.
I'm sorry mate, but she should be staying in. I am almost reluctant to post this, as I know you're gonna be pissed off with me, but there are fucking dickheads about like the couple you spoke about. They could potentially kill your mum.
She cant control the actions of idiots, so please just tell her to stay in.
I hope she makes a full recovery blue.

They only crash over Christmas due to bank holiday blips in reporting then spike the 2nd week in Jan as it’s catching up for the bank hols. In reality it will be a lot less spikey.

Is that not meeting indoors with another household too??

this is where the "fat shaming", "all body types are beautiful" facade we've had to put up with alongside so many other nonsensical ideological entitlements just needs to be put in the bin post Covid with a return to common decency, self respect and personal responsibility. People should have the help and support they need to go on intermittent fasting and lower sugar/carb dietary programmes which are monitored, exercise regimes that are tailored to their current health situation and it can be funded by taxing unhealthy foods more heavily as they need to go back to being treats, and we need to put an end to industry lobbies dictating policy over our public health crisis. Healthy lifestyle culture and education should be all over news, the Beeb, social media as government backed policy. We do need to change and that's me included.
Quite right fella.

Humans should be fat shamed, we’re not supposed to be fat! Poor diet, obesity and lack of fitness are the root causes, or the most hindering factors in recovery, to almost every physical and mental health problem known to man.
