COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Guess this is directed at all posters. If you've had Covid, what symptoms did you have? Me and my missus are feeling very run down at the moment. Feels cold-like, but a lot of pressure in our heads too. Bit sinus-ey. Knackered and weak. I know it can share a lot in common with just typical mild flu stuff, so im a bit uncertain now ahead of Christmas. Was planning to see my parents in their garden on xmas day but I'm worried ive got a very, very mild version!

If ever there were a time to act it would be now.

As things stand, with a new variant we may not be able to control at all, we're planning to allow Boxing day sales to go ahead and spread it even faster.

But what do experts know?

Going to sound bad but I think the shock factor has gone that we experienced during the first wave. Either people not even looking at the numbers or they are and it’s just not triggering the same response we saw in March.

I think because this is the 3rd ‘wave’ people have become normalised to it.

That may change if the shit really hits the fan and hospitals get overrun mind.

Not what you asked for as I haven’t had it but I think unless you have a cough, high temperature or no appetite its very unlikely to be Covid. Everyone I know who have had it had at least 2 of those symptoms.

The usual winter colds are going round too, my missus and kids have it (and probably me soon...)

Only because there has been barely any spectators at live sport so there’s no data to analyse.

the only “evidence” of supermarket spread is the story the other week that 1 in 4 covid positive ppl had been to a supermarket in the 7 days prior to testing positive. I bet at least 1 in 4 of the entire population visit a supermarket at least once every 7 days. Hence there is no real link to supermarkets and spread. Furthermore, on the ground conversations with staff at various supermarkets has revealed barely any issue with staff testing positive to show any “outbreak” traced to a supermarket.

Clearly if they allowed significant numbers back into live sport there would be spread (Cheltenham, atletico v bin dippers)
Obviously, I wasn’t talking about live sport with stadiums full of fans.Nobody was.

Yeah, I presumed that but my best mate had it and was fun other than feeling lethargic and run down.

Started with me feeling a bit weak and throaty and then turned into a fever for a day and then a severe throat infection. My parents started with the typical dry cough and fever.

It seems to manifest as any number of cold/flu symptom combinations (or be asymptomatic all together obvs!) but it doesn't sound like you have the big red flag symptoms. I would still book a test if you can though as you may as well find out.

Anecdotally, it seems the typical seasonal illnesses are picking up a little bit too at the moment. I know a few people who have been a bit run down this week but who have come back negative.

Hope you're both ok though!

I felt a little run down and achey, as if I was coming on with a cold or the flu but it never materialised. I didn’t know I had it the first day I felt that and went for a run in the morning, so that’s how little it affected me.

I’ve since had tonsillitis that was ten times worse.

The Mrs with Covid, possibly because she’s pregnant, was significantly worse. Loss of sense and smell, bad head aches, nose blocked and sinuses sore, tight chest and at times struggled with breathing a little, felt really run down to the point of struggling to get up, spent one day completely in bed and another mostly in bed. I was pretty worried for obvious reasons but mainly because she’s pregnant. Kept an eye on her constantly and had to ask once or twice if she needed further help from an ambulance, the answer both times was if it gets any worse then yes but not now.

She’s fine now and was complaining about the smell of my farts in no time. Had a scan afterwards and baby is golden too.

Glad to hear you're all well now mate, and cheers. Yeah, we both feel exactly like that. As if we're about to have a cold. Head pressurey, I was a tad sniffly, but mainly both run down and weak feeling. Got a test booked now anyway tomorrow morning at the Eithad of all places as im not taking any chances ahead of christmas!

Andy Burnham just said on BBC News he hopes GM will be in tier 2. Not a chance. He too seems to be watching days old data if he says -as he just did - GM only risen by 1% this week so should be released. Last week maybe so.

In the past seven days the weekly pop rises in GM say otherwise.

Yes Wigan has done very well and gone down 24 but the overall trend is only one way. But Manchester up 18, Oldham up 16, Salford up 34, Stockport up 44, Tameside up 22 and Trafford up 71 tells you all you need to know.

Those are much worse than they were when the government decided tier 3 not tier 2. I agree that was an arguable call but you certainly could not do it now given the above upward curves. Let alone the 17% level of the mutant strain the BBC were also just now telling us they were 'given access to today' (though it was easy to read on here or Twitter yesterday morning so not sure why it needed them to get access to it as if it were somehow top secret).

As I have been posting all day this over reliance on days old data is leading people to make bad decisions.

We need a proper lockdown now let alone on Boxing Day and we absolutely cannot go down a tier given the rise of this new strain in the NW. That would be catastrophic.

They just need to dump these tiers and stop the ability to transfer the virus from tier to tier by the same rules for everybody and so no way to cheat the system.

Just creating yet more levels and complexity is ridiculous. If it leaves anywhere for people to go to get round the rules and spread the virus that is what it will do.

Can't agree mate. Schools are the biggest spreaders, that's where the dichotomy begins and ends.

It's being brought home every day.

My wife's class has now tested 11 positives and five staff since she tested positive herself last Friday.

None of those 5-11 year-old's showed any symptoms and only got tested after my wife rang it in.

My lad is at secondary school and they had over 70 self-isolating in his year alone last week.

For me Children cannot have anymore time off school.

Good idea mate.

Ive heard of people having a range of symptoms so you’re definitely best checking.

My beef is with tonsillitis, why’s the government not talking about that lol!?

My tonsils are still fucked several weeks later and even now.

Releasing us to tier 2 would be catastrophic.

Is he off his nut?

They are waiting until after Christmas Day, Boxing Day sales AND New Year’s Eve before introducing a national lockdown?

It’s game over.
It is about time these scientists got out there and staged their own press conference and the media showed it live. Tomorrow. They need to make the argument that I suspect 99% of the population already see and are as dumbfounded as I am that we are being given leaks in the tabloids about yet more silly tiers and silence on what must be done when the other nations have made clear today what they are doing.

These experts need to do more than chatter on Twitter. This is too important to leave it to social media to argue, Lives are at stake. If nobody in Westminster is listening they need to go direct to the nation.

Factually incorrect as other nations are allowing household mixing for more than just one day
