Some great routes local to Manchester as well. Up Saddleworth way there is an absolute ton of trails and climbs that are beyond belief. Lovely part of the world is Uppermill and Delph. Edale and Hayfield are my personal favourites going out the other way.

I live in Ashton but Uppermill is just about a 10 minutes drive away, as you say it's a lovely place to visit, plenty of walks around there, Delph, Dob Cross and Greenfield. Some great pubs and restaurants when we reopen, well worth a visit for anyone who's not been there before.

Done both, striding was in beautiful weather in 2019. Stunning scenery.
Crib Goch was on the day we lost 1-0 at Arsenal in 2012 and all thought the title had gone, we’d dealt with wind rain sleet and snow, couldn’t see 5 feet so never realised how dangerous it actually was!! Probably wouldn’t have done it if we’d known.. stupidity I guess looking back.

Anyway we survived and we went on to win the title!!
 
We used to walk with a club in Yorkshire and every New Year's Day we would do their 'Hangover Hike' ,10 or 20km in the area of Barnsley. The cold air would shake out cobwebs and it is surprising to see what there is. Moorland, woodland, stately homes in parkland, reservoirs and dams, pit villages and industrial relics.
Most important a nice warm pub at the end to replenish lost fluids.

A bit like you, I did Crib Goch with a group of others the first time, and it got very foggy indeed, so that right hand side, which Is ridiculous, was mostly hidden from view, so I had no idea of the drop!

You're the OP, so it should be your responsibility ;-)

Where would you prefer Inchy, lakes or peak?
I would suggest Peak as it's likely to be an hour or less for the majority to get to the start point
 
Just watched that 100 best walks on ITV and plenty of the top ones were in the lakes Peak District and Yorkshire so me and the Mrs are starting this walking/hiking lark. Is there any good apps that have the routes in so we can start smallish and work our way up? Don’t want to be chased by a bull in farmer palmers field:-)

Already decided we will do the 4 in the lakes later in the year when everything hopefully opens up.

I always fancied it and a couple of years ago got myself some proper walking boots and started

Peaks is probably nearest for most but the lakes is my most favourite place in all the world. Scafell Lloughrig fell or Oldman of Coniston I absolutely adore being on.

I have AllTrails app which is really useful but I always get an OS map of where I’m going just to be on the safe side, always take a compass too.

I have a boxful of OS maps from 80s and 90s Covers most of country from South Midlands up to borders in 1:50k, plus Most of Northwest in 1:25k plus wayfarers of popular walking areas also 1:25k
Not up to date with new housing developments but the hills and woods don't change.
Some well-worn but usable, some as new.

Charity shops don't want them, scouts use computers nowadays. It would be a shame to put them on tip.
Quite heavy. If anyone wants the lot they can collect at Junction 19 M6.
