In 2015 Farage was asked about no go areas for non Muslims in France (by good old Fox News) after the Charlie Hebdo shootings, he then extended that to "major European cities" and then proceeded to have a good rant about the UK too. He complained about immigrants to the UK from Pakistan in the same breath, so not relevant to FOM or Brexit, just generally pretty anti Muslim.

But the idea that Muslims in Britain (and more coming to Europe during the refugee crisis) was not in (some) people's minds in 2016 is fanciful, because Farage did his evil best to put it there.

I went to Kiev to see City play Dinamo in 2015 with Bill. And then we had three games against Shakthar Donetsk which had to be moved to Kharkiv due to the communists ruling the strip of land Donetsk was in.
I can’t believe anyone couldn’t remember that and the highly unlikely acquiescence of the dictator to allow closer European ties.

Interesting (and great) times - I was at the Dinamo game.

I stayed at the big Ukraine (Khreschatyk) Hotel next to that central square - I think you guys were there as well? I think I may have bumped into Bill when picking up the tickets at the CITY hotel.

Walking around the central square with all the photos of those that had died and soldiers 'collecting' money to support the families of the deceased was very 'poignant'

I bottled out of the Kharkiv trips after getting my tickets - I was OK with Kiev, but.... fair play to you.

But as you say - the situation at that time and the events since mean that EU membership is very unlikely

Buy British, it's that simple. Start having pride in the nation you inhabit. If you can't bring yourself to do that, and think it's better elsewhere, then once the lockdown is over, bugger off!

Not sure if you realise but the "communists" in the East wouldn't be the ones making the decision. Any discussions would be between the EU and the democratically elected government in Kiev, a government that has stated that it hopes to gain accession by 2030. The EU think it will take a bit longer but there is an ambition on both sides for it to happen. If you think Putin and Russia will still be an issue in 10 years you've got a better crystal ball than me.
