Greater Manchester summary:

It was also a very good day for GM - lowest numbers in 2021.

578 cases - down 254 on yesterday so a good chunk of the 424 NW fall, reducing the percentage of GM in the NW from 48% to 44.2%

Some good numbers today as you might expect

Manchester the only one in 3 figures and at 116 one of its lowest in months.

Nobody else was higher than 74.

Almost everywhere down week to week.

Ironically the only one not was Trafford - up from 41 to 44 versus 41 last week. So hardly a disaster.

Indeed it still added to its Pop Score lead on Stockport which, whilst also down week to week, was still a little high at 64 - down just 3 on yesterday.

There were two boroughs below 40 today - Oldham at 37 its lowest in a while.

And top of the tree the borough the Manchester Evening News day before yesterday told us (using week old data) was worst in GM because of a new variant.

Well scoring just 35 it rather contradicted that story today happily.

Sitting with someone in the garden after 11 months of restrictions and fuck ups back and forth isn’t a small victory to me
Well we are where we are. Not sure what your alternative is. Sitting in the garden with my family maybe a BBQ and a couple of beers. wil do me for now.

Primary Schools? Not according to Chris Whitty. Clearly stated that younger children (primary school age) transmit the virus least. Cases down at 10000 with schools at 50% attendance. Of course cases could go up and that’s why it’s schools first before anything else. Kids have missed long enough. No evidence to support doubling of cases overnight at all from primary schools.None.
The React Study says otherwise.
By age group, the biggest numbers 5-9 and 18-24

Historicly from this report,
12-15 year olds drove the pandemic drove the mega spike in the run up to Christmas.

Incidently, the PHE data this week shows cases in care homes and hospitals have dramatically fallen over the last 3 weeks.

Shopping is absolutely shocking thanks to Covidiots. Only Morrisons is dealing with it. The rest are simply paying lip service to it and are actually doing sweet FA.
Schools are pretty bad too, no matter what some people are saying.

There seems a real reluctance to understand that schools are so key to infection as we're so desperate for us to get children back in education (and get them out of adults' hair if you read MumsNet). Why do we not learn the lessons from September ?

New case figures in the Netherlands and Belgium have been rising in the last few days. Had been dropping slowly, then plateauing, but now they appear to be heading up again. Only thing that has changed in the Netherlands has been primary schools returning.

This looks brilliant.

Those are seriously impressive figures. Just one thing though - I wasn’t aware that any of the vaccines were close to being as effective as that at preventing infection. I thought it was more about preventing serious illness if you get infected so to have that as well is even better news than I could’ve imagined.

Sadly yes. Kids 12-14 became as infective as adults with the new variant sent case numbers through the roof Prior to that they were no different than Primary School kids who catch it but are not particularly infective.

Don’t let @Two Gun Bob see this :)
I have made provision to apply a one post stay of execution on my 30 day thread ban under Self Moderational rules. After holding an emergency meeting with myself I've agreed that it would be not only gratuitous in clarifying the action of my quill last night but also explain how the system works. I will be able to still see you all and inwardly digest the daily figures from Commander Heald which is my current go to for information as it's all neat and tidy in one Place. (can be overridden by official moderation if deemed fit in the interest of moon harmony)

From an epistemological viewpoint I remain free thinking holding that belief should not be formed on the basis of authority, tradition, revelation or dogma, and should be reached by a method of logic reasoning and empirical observation. I am not responsible for what people say to me but i am accountable for the action I eventually take after very careful deliberation.

I have been offered an unsolicited choice to attend early through the NHS to Rochdale or Oldham. The inoculations are for nhs workers and families and are not performed at official inoculation sites and internal. Rochdale infirmary is using Astra and Oldham Pfizer, the appointment was for the back end of next week and was cancelled. A new appointment will be made for Oldham as we wish to receive the Pfizer. I never made the rules and I never requested inoculating and would have been happy to sit it out until we were both ready. No hogging of any system has taken place and the Astra jab will still be available to any nhs personal that wish it.

I reserve the right to decide what goes into my body and if that does not sit well with some then so be it and I certainly make no apology for that. Hopefully this can be debated and does not become a mechanism for abuse. Cheerio.

371,906 first shots & 15,294 second shots yesterday.

Considering there is a squeeze on supply these are still excellent numbers. Hopefully next week the numbers will start climbing again.

Harder to police older kids when out of school whereas at least most primary kids stay at home once home from school. Teens are a different breed and will do what they want. Most adults I know who have caught this pre Xmas, got it from their teenage child.
