Being reported that 95% of the AZ vaccine sent to Saxony has not been used as they effectively made people think it was useless.

That makes the UK look like world beaters but will turn into a humanitarian tragedy when someone in Germany inevitably works out how many lives that has cost.

The US media are trying to claim UK people are turning it down too and demanding Pfizer instead.

We had one person on here as I recall trying to play that game but I think we have rightly adopted a have the vaccine and don't ask who made it policy.

When there are about 4 or 5 of them being used this will become meaningless as nobody will be able to stage manage those options. And I doubt it has really been that big a deal in the UK either. I know loads of over 60s who happily had AZ and would have crawled there to get it. And 99% of those I know had to look on their card to even see which one they had.

The way the testing was done and stop/start in the US tests to check a case did not help but much of this has been fuelled by misunderstanding of what matters with a vaccine. And the absurd league tables the media have created to make people think there are bigger differences than there are.

The world really does not need this mess as we need to get the planet inoculated ASAP and if we slow that down by dissing one of the easiest to get to remote villages we are in effect handing a goal start to the virus.

Did you you receive a text or letter or did you use the link I posted on Thursday evening?

My wife booked hers then but today she received her letter saying she is eligible.
No, I used the link that you sent. Thanks again, otherwise I wouldn't have known anything about it.
My wife and I had Chromebook/iPad synchronised and booked together 10 minutes apart.

I guess Salford must be working their way through the lists efficiently to open it up to all over-50s.

If they are not using it, they should send it to poorer countries.

Just back from my vaccine, and the nurse was saying, my part of Scotland was the lowest covid area in the mainland UK,at 29/100,000/week think thats's @Healdplace Pop score of 29. My vaccine was 2.45 so after watching our win. Things getting very bright.
Murky for me. We know the vaccines and 'natural' immunity will wipe out the wild-type and the UK variant but we are going to be selecting mutations that evade antibody responses hence we are likely to be left with a host of semi-resistant strains. What happens with Covid depends on whether they can replicate in the vaccinated population, and the severity of the illness they cause.

Regional scoreboard:

Everywhere down today

North West included though today again the only region to be over 1000. All the others below.

Yorkshire down 11 to 909

North East down 1 to 419

East Midlands down 111 to 812

West Midlands down 154 to 899

East down down 127 to 543

South East down 75 to 680

South West down 122 to 319

and London 106 to 678

The North West by comparison fell by the most - 210 - to 1155.

This is the lowest NW total since a week or two before Christmas.

Yes the regional pop data I posted earlier today shows the problems in the two midlands regions and an increase in Yorkshire. North West is starting to look better compared with them in cases and that will inevitably with time reduce the deaths.

I wonder if the high ethnic population in places like Leicester and Birmingham will be seeing a lower uptake in vaccinations which could start to skew the data too.
Definitely a concern about vaccine take-up. Case creep as much an issue in very non-diverse Corby/Rutland/Kesteven areas.

Greater Manchester highlights:

Good news. Lowest total of 2021 and for many weeks. Down 117 to just 516.

From a NW fall of 210 that is over half and reduces the GM %of the NW to 44.7% - its lowest in 10 days.

Every borough in GM today was under 100.

Also the lowest 'high' number since early autumn and the lowest spread - just 47 between best and worst in a very long time.

Manchester at 77 was the 'high' but that is the lowest I think since before the university term started last September.

Wigan was only 4 behind at 73.

Better day for Stockport at 48 - equalling its lowest in 2021.

Trafford down at 31 but was beaten to top spot today by 1 as Oldham had just 30 which at a Pop Score rise of 12 was the lowest of the day.

All round good day for GM.

19.68 million have received first 1st doses

We should easily break through 20 million by tomorrow as the data reported on Sunday is usually the highest of the week.

By those figures, by the end of this week nearly half of all eligible adults in the UK will have been vaccinated. Absolutely mind blowing

They said that they were aiming for everyone in groups 1-9 to have been offered their first dose by the 15th April. There are 30 million in those groups so I would expect that date to be moved up with they way they are going.

What part of Scotland? My daughter and family live in Glasgow G12 area near the Botanical Gardens, they've been in the highest risk area all through this can't understand why, the only contact they have with other people is when they go to the shop, but they have their main shop delivered

The Governor of Munich has stated if people refuse the AZ vaccine, then they should go to the back of the queue.

4000 have been offered to police and homeless today in the area.

Common sense.

England hospital data

More good news

Patients down 691 to 11, 090 v 14 316 last Saturday.

Ventilators down 61 to 1747 v 2142 last Saturday.
