Leeds (H) | Post Match Thread

Posters who are saying Pep was right in resting players or not bringing KDB on bcoz he could get injured before a big game, I have a question :

Will same argument be made when he face Villa away next week? Should we rest players bcoz we have league Cup final coming up next weekend or this argument won't be relevant then? Or is it that we can rest players lose even if that means our lead potentially remains 5 points!?
I think it is irrelevant, Pep made changes today because we had the 14 point cushion, next time out in the League we may not so he will go strong.
Dortmund game is more important simply because we have a slender lead, if we had been 3 nil up from the first leg then todays team would have been stronger.
I would have preferred a stronger team today but Pep knows more than the rest of us combined.

What today shows is some players can not be relied upon, Raz is suffering a loss of form and will be back, others that came in today have not shown nearly enough consistency and may be moved on.
Sad for Serg too because he should have been getting a hat trick today but he just cant stay fit.

Sterling doesn’t deserve another start, his decision making is absolutely shocking and the finishing is worse. All his “lovers” need to justify his performance today, it was a disgrace for someone who is trying to negotiate a Pay rise/ contract. He wasn’t alone today, Gabby was as bad and Mendy even worse.
Not sure how we go forward from this defeat to a 10 man mid team table.
Our ability to fcuk up chance after chance is comical.
Mary fucking poppins, he needs at least 5 good chances , to score a goal.

Can someone help me out with this City training session clip? Is this Mendy or Sterling?

ha ha ha ha ,he"S BETTER THAT STIRLING

I will in my own time. Still don't get why we rested so many I prefer to try get the game won early then if things go our way get them off. Not the other way round when we struggle to come back when we are down.
Because games don’t tend to be won early. It’s a dream scenario that happens much less frequently in reality than our fans seem to think. Plus we only get 3 subs so would only be able to rest 3 players. We wanted to rest 7 and to not have to use them at all.

What a strange game that was, early kickoff kind of start to the game but City had had about 4-5 chances as good as the one for the first goal Leeds scored. Which is what made the difference today, they weren't scared of us having too many shots because the shooting was off from everybody. There were a few poor/rusty performances but there's no need to single anyone out, we were the better team overall in my view.

Not sure I agree with BT saying Leeds deserved all 3 points but they probably deserved a draw as much as it pains me to say it. I think the substitutions should have come earlier but I can understand why they didn't. The second leg of the CL tie has to be the priority for obvious reasons. Unlucky City, but you really need to all get your shooting boots back for the games coming up.

And not concede 2 goals from 2 attempts.

Weekend team fair enough, but the whole left hand side was wrong. Ake rusty, Mendy rusty/not good enough, Zinchenko out of position, and Sterling out of form. Still should have won, but it's no surprise we looked out of sorts.

When we are playing a team like Leeds though Trev at home who we know will attack us, we know ourselves we will get chances with Kevin and Foden in that lineup we could of easily scored a couple that first half imo. Again Imo I don't think we needed that many changes at the same time.

Anyways I hope its payed off the rest and we destroy Dortmund

We're Man City we fight to the end. The Boys in Blue never give in and they won't give in over the next few weeks either. There's even a 'banner' (or whatever those things are hiding all our seats) saying WE FIGHT TO THE END.

Don't despair, just keep the faith. (Sorry to be a Pollyanna but it's City lads and lassies, it's City our heroes). :-)

Must give the away team a boost when they see our big players rested . And Bielsas team talk will be all about “they are so arrogant they think they can beat you with their ballboys and benchwarmers”

Sterling was pony today in every way.
The front 4 were too static too many times. When they did occasionally move about/make runs, windows began to open.
Torres finished his chance well, but otherwise was invisible.
Cancelo was a bit to errant too often (balls in and twice for the first goal).
Mendy was meh.
Zinch had quite a good game, as did Fern and Stones apart from the last minute sucker punch when we were chasing the 3.
Ake was ok.
Bernie was a bit quiet but had a few good moments.
For an almost full second string, didn't think we were that bad - we still had control and the usual potential for a goal throughout.
Don't feel angry, think Pep was right on re: prepping for Weds.

Spot on

Their winning goal. How was this never checked? (Leeds player top right)
Well spotted, maybe there was one and Zinchenko is playing him on?... That looks very close though. I would like to see the lines drawn on that. If they didn't do a check that says it all about this league, they'd have spent ages checking that if City did it against one of the media darlings.

We got what we deserved, because we couldn’t finish our chances.
So by that logic a team can only deserve to win... if they win. I think that’s ridiculous. We deserved to win. Pep put out a team that rested 7 key players yet still dominated, only conceded 2 shots all game, had 29 shots, and the expected goals on all those chances was around 2.3 - 0.2. We would win that game playing that same team and that same football over 90 times out of 100. It was a team that deserved to win the game, but didn’t. And I can live with that, it’s the nature of sport.

We’ve made changes like that many times and secured the points, enabling us to progress on all fronts in a season when everyone else has been unable to find consistency due to the schedule. It’s our competitive advantage. We have gained far more points from such changes, from keeping the squad fresh, focused and pulling in the same direction, than the 3 points we lost today.
