Because they are “Champions”, hence why the competition is called the Champions League.

Tbe fact that under the new proposals a team can finish 8th in the PL and get an automatic spot is scandalous. But we don’t see the same opposition to these proposals because it means England get an extra spot.

The Super League and UEFA proposals are both disgusting and go against everything football is about.

If the champions qualified by right and the other qualifiers had to qualify it’d be a better comp imho

Should go back to the days where 11 lads on the team were all local lads, if each team up and down the country had that, the development of our own english players would increase massively. But for the fucking life of me, I hope that these same pundits and managers actually do the same regarding the new champions league reform because that has just become a fucking closed shop more than what it already is - are they going to call Ceferin out that a club like liverpool or united could finish 7th in the domestic league but still qualify going of past history

Does that mean that a club like west ham could ultimately finish 4th but still lose out because liverpool or united have a better pedigree ?

I hate the CL and UEFA, but I don’t care about them in this argument.

For me, this is about dismantling the structure of the Premier League and the meaning of the games, and the wider English game.

I totally get that too.

But this has all come about due to the obsession of not missing out on European money at the highest stage. The threat of teams like West Ham and Leicester taking CL spots is dangerous to teams like Spurs and Arsenal.

They want a closed shop and will sacrifice anything to get what they want. The irony being that UEFA have designed the CL to give as many spots as possible to English, Spanish and Italian clubs.

Of course they can’t.

But it should still be made up of a majority of Champions. Top 16 nations should see their Champions automatically qualify. Then other 16 should be filled with 12 runners up from top 12 countries. And 4 spots from smaller leagues through a qualifying route.

5 teams from the one country in a competition that was designed for champions is an insult to all of these other clubs missing out.

That would mean you would lose out on the better teams from these better leagues. 4th from the Premier league also goes through a qualifying round, which they normally win.
You would basically miss out on Atletico/Chelsea/Rags/Monaco/Napoli who would 9/10 times beat most of the other teams. It would be a very weak competition.

Well done to those Leeds fans tonight. That needs to happen up and down the country and in Spain and Italy at every game involving these 12 from now on. The players won't be taking it personal, they know that we know its not them, it's not aimed at them but it's simply the best way of letting our feelings be known.
