Who’s gone in the summer?

Jesus and Sterling are going nowhere and quite rightly, both are at a minimum great squad players. The cost to replace those two would be huge.

I see Garcia, Aguero and maybe Mendy going.

It won't be wholesale changes though, we might pick up a left back on a good deal, maybe sign a striker for a big fee and possibly a midfielder (just cause Pep loves a midfielder).

More people would have gone if the season had continued on the 2020 trajectory lol, now not expecting many outside the obvious ones (Garcia, Aguero). Not even sure we'll be able to sell mendy tbh

Sterling on 300k a week is not and should never be considered a squad player.

In saying that if a club came in with a serious offer 80m plus, maybe the club would be tempted, especially with his contract situation.

I‘m with you, I suspect that Sterling will go if the right offer comes in.
He’s a marvellous athlete, he’s been great for us and will, I’m sure, be great again but he seems to have plateaued under our system.
Works his socks off but doesn’t get the breaks as often nowadays because what he does is now so well known that tactics are employed to keep him from being effective.

I also suspect that he’s had enough of being subject to niggly fouls every game but the refs giving him nothing whatsoever. I recon he’ll go abroad and rip it up somewhere else in a different system of play.
Thing is with the state of the finances of clubs abroad can’t see any of them paying the £90 mill plus we would probably request if we were to sell Sterling .

There are some that can’t grasp the fact that an EDS kid being stand out fantastic doesn’t make them good enough to step in and replace a proven and experienced player in one of the best teams in Europe.
An EDS kid being absolutely brilliant gets them to train with the squad where they can hope to prove themselves over a couple of seasons, pick up a bit of game time here and there and learn from the experience.
It takes time and they need to earn it.

Edit; I’ve just read that back and it sounds a bit preachy. I‘m sorry about that and I must emphasise that it was just my opinion and not some established scientific fact. I just put it across badly was all.
I think also though it’s not feasible long term to have four top centre backs like we have .
Top players like Laporte and I’m guessing ake will not enjoy being rotation options and I believe at least one of them two may request to leave this summer .
That’s why I think a young lad from the Eds if he was potentially good enough like a harwood bellis would be good to have as a third or fourth choice .

You could be right.
As example, Foden has been a shining light for youth development. He’s also, quite literally 1 in a million, his rise to a senior position, at his age, at one of the best clubs in europe is freaky, though very welcome.,
I like the thought of EDS players earning a bit of game time in the league cup or early rounds of the FAC but I think we’ll have enough game time to keep our senior internationals happy.
IMO deliberately scrimping on senior recruitment to make us dependant on the EDS suddenly churning out seasoned professional internationals would be a triumph of hope over reason.
However; I’m just pushing an opinion like you are so who’s to know eh?

It has always been hard in our side, to develop the EDS players. A lot have sampled the League Cup, but with everyone wanting us to break records and dominate in all competitions, there really isn't the room to blood the youngsters.

The fact that we have managed to keep hold of such a high standard of players such as Laporte, who would probably be not picked in our first starting X1, has meant that the standard has not dropped too much when injuries have happened, and we have needed to rotate, which is why we have been able to get to at least the semis of all cup competitions, and won the league.

Long may it continue.

Just need to keep the 4 CB together one more year

One will get upset and leave which opens up a spot for THB
If Mendy is moved we can go with Zinchencko, and Ale playing leftback, that way we can keep the 4 CBs. We were lucky with injuries this year defensively. I'm not sure we can expect that every year.

can only really see Aguero and Garcia leaving this year due to the contract expiry dates of the others, in 12-months may see more of a movement but what clubs can afford big transfer fees with high wages our lads would have. Ideally you move 3 or 4 each year to keep the squad fresh and have that thirst for success. Weve slipped in the past when we havnt rotated but in these times maybe jsut one marquee signing will do the trick with bringing in some more youth.

Garcia / no replacement needed
Sergio - striker /Kane/Harland
Mendy - replacement that lad from Portugal? Mendes?
If Sterling goes or Mahrez fancies PSG either of these I suppose could refuse a contract extension and then with 2 years left ?? Then someone like Grealish coming in I could see happening?
Then the Mendy situation needs resolving.
Good luck Pep Txiki and co.

Garcia and aguero are going, confident dinho will get another year so I really don't see anybody else beigng shifted out. A striker is the key and then we will look to see who else we can bring in with a view to either having a squad player in a few years or making a profit.

Mendy won't go as nobody will pay money for a guy that can't stay fit, we are unlucky to let him go for nothing given what we paid for him and he seems good for morale so as long as he's not wanting to go I don't see him leaving. Ake hasn't been fit, he won't be going anywhere, laporte will be hard to keep happy if he's not playing but I can't see him looking to get out yet he surely has enough fight in him to fancy his chances of getting himself enough games to satisfy him. No problems in midfield, would like an upgrade on Rodri but he's going nowhere, could do with an extra body if possible. Wide areas are a weakness right now. Sterling I'd be looking to shift if a big money bid came in but that's not likely post covid, so he stays. could see Torres loaned out if Messi were to come but that doesn't seem all that likely anymore.

Expecting one major signing and then a quiet window with a few under the radar kayky signings and very little outgoings other than players not currently at the club.

So in theory mendy is a very expensive cheerleader ha ha

I think our squad is overloaded with international players tbh , personally I think we could promote some academy kids while remaining successful.
Especially out of this class coming through now with Delap, Palmer , Doyle, Lavia etc .
I’m not sure they will though , I think now foden has come through , pep won’t feel any pressure to promote any more kids .
Doubt the board will put any pressure on him to do so either .
The squads that big also , with full international players who also need games , so the chances of a young lad like Palmer coming through and playing a meaningful amount of games seem slim imo .

Some players asking to leave according to Pep. Laporte is an obvious one but would not surprise me if Raz or Mr Whippy (please no) see a future elsewhere. Especially if Jack Greedyish is signed...

They can ask to leave but there are very few clubs out there that can facilitate them.
They would all want to go to Champions league teams.
Possibly used as part of a transfer deal .e.g. Gundogan might be happy enough to go back to Dortmund as part of the Haaland deal.
Laporte and Sterling would surely only be interested in clubs on a par with us and there's not too many of them

We must not sell Laporte. There’s no way Stones and Dias can play 60 games together next season. Aké is decent but not great, and that’s it. So we need Laporte to stay, not only so there’s no drop in quality but also to keep Stones in particular on his toes. No room for complacency or weak back ups.
