What a depressing couple of days news wise
Just as we've got some freedom looks like we're heading for a 3rd wave.
Eh? Its the best news I've heard over the past year. Covid cases are starting to ramp up yet hospitalisations are decreasing ie the vaccinations work. Beautiful stuff. All of the current hospitalisations haven't had a jab. News just doesn't get better than this in my opinion. I think the problem is the media are hooked on negative press and not actually reporting the proper facts.

How are you feeling now Worsley ? Have you got fully back into your job of making Manchester the greatest city on earth ?

Take care.

cheers pal. Yes I am very busy. Some very exciting stuff coming off at the moment and working on some huge stuff that will honestly change the skyline massively. Even more so than Deansgate. And it will happen.

has taken me weeks to build my strength back up though. Porto was much needed change of scenery and quality time with one of my kids.

going to be an intense summer for me.

On 10 Dec Scotland had 50 deaths and 933 cases - v 2 deaths and 992 cases today. Positivity was 4.7% v 3.9% today.

There were 984 in hospital v 116 now and 52 on ventilators v 8 now.
Whilst I think that the Scottish Government's instincts generally over the pandemic have been slightly better than England's, I do wonder whether they have been a bit slow to expand vaccination to the younger age groups. I don't, of course, know whether this could be down to a shortage of non-AZ vaccine.
The difference in the Scottish and Welsh figures would suggest that Wales got that part right.

My son moved down to Southern England at the start of the first lockdown to be with his girlfriend. He was fortunate to find a good job that matched his talents as a chef. In fact he works for a company that supplies fine dining for private planes (and particularly when the planes weren't flying, to people's homes) and he was responsible for the meals on the Chelsea team's flights to and from Porto. He registered with a GP practice in Surrey and got his first vaccination about 3 weeks ago. He is obviously still on the system with NHS Scotland as a couple of days ago he received an invitation from them for his first vaccination - so Scotland would look to be about about a month behind England for the under 40s. Incidentally, I phoned to explain to NHS Scotland that he had moved and spent 30 minutes in a queue for a 2 minute 'phone call. I could probable have cancelled on line but I wanted to check that cancelling his appointment in Scotland wouldn't affect him getting an invitation for a second jag in England.

Sorry to hear you're still a bit rum mate.
What are your symptoms?
I'm still having them nigh on 4-5 months after having COVID19. Shortness of breath and the heart rapidly pacing if I try and run (sporadic though - I did a warm treadmill 5k 2 weeks ago and was fine...played light tennis with the kids on Monday and had to abruptly stop when may heart started rapidly pacing.
Know many cases like this - a distant relative is on blood thinners because of it.

The proper facts are that mutations like L452R in the Indian variant are related to the following escape antibody reactions: mAb bamlanivimab, mAb class2, mAb class2/3, mAb COV2-2096, mAb P2B-2F6, mAb regdanvimab, mAb S2D32, mAb S2H70, mAb S2N12, mAb S2N22, mAb S2X30, mAb S2X305, mAb S2X58, mAb S2X608, mAb S2X609, mAb S2X619, mAb SARS2-01, mAb SARS2-32, mAb X593.

That's one mutation.

There are some neutralising antibody reactions that remain unaffected. That is why we now need high antibody titres to get an effective neutralisation hence you need two jabs.

If you check the relevant databases you will find that there are 19 new mutations that have been detected in the new variant just whilst it has been circulating in the UK. Fingers crossed that we don't get any that will KO any of the remaining neutralising antibody reactions.

There are other aspects to immunity than antibodies but it isn't all good news. The vaccines remain effective for the time being against the major circulating strains. And I think we this current spike will be short-lived. My concern is what happens after it sweeps the world. Where will that leave our immunity? I don't know but we should be very wary.

I still can’t taste a thing mate and I am beyond shattered still and breathless. My fitness has been crap for years but I really struggled In the heat in Porto like a bloody old man. Have eaten like a king for the last month. Steaks, Chicken and more veg than I have ever had. Tonnes of vitamins etc but I just can’t shake off the last bit of it. Hard to put my finger on but just lingering.

I get the strong impression that the UK is short of current vaccine supply. If we had vaccine supplies now, we'd have been vaccinating like crazy but we aren't. France, Italy, Germany, Greece are all vaccinating faster than the UK at the moment (per capita).

Someone on here described it as feeling very old and it rings so true.
I was running a half marathon the week before I had it and 5 months on (most of the time) struggle to jog for a few mins. Back at the gym but light work and so weak. The racy heart bit is what I need to be careful of.

Rest up as much as you can mate.

I had the Moderna vaccine mid April, over 50 so should be having my second anytime. Tried cancelling and rebooking for an earlier date, but nothing available before the end of June. Feels to me like Moderna supplies aren't there?

Not the case in Wales, smaller country of course, but been a great success to date. Now vaccinating over 18’s.

My mrs (32) had her first jab yesterday in Didsbury. Booked on the NHS website and she was given the Moderna one.

I refer to the current rate of vaccination. We have a new variant surging out of hotpots which is spreading through the unvaccinated age-groups. The 2nd vaccine rate is flat and the 1st vaccine rate is going down if anything.

Increasing vaccination was the obvious response. We haven't done that. Therefore we must have already been at maximum?

Australian Data since first case summary by Capital City as Covid in Regional and Rural areas of Australia has by and large been either non-existent or at extremely low levels and by low I mean cases numbers in single digits at the height of the waves.

Melbourne - 820 deaths , 20500 cases , 167 days in hard lockdown

Rest of Capital Cities in total , 90 deaths 10,000 cases , average of 6 days in hard lockdown

The main reason for the major variance in deaths per case number is the fact that in Victoria we failed to keep covid from creeping into aged care ( over 660 deaths ).

While it is the case that those local governments that decide to lockdown usually have done so in response to community transmission that has got out of hand in terms of effective contact tracing and isolation it is interesting to note that bar a few smaller scale local lockdowns the more Conservative Leaning State of NSW which compares favourable in terms of population numbers and density with regard to the capital cities has decided not to lockdown in response to community transmission having taken the vast majority of overseas travellers into hotel quarantine while the Socialist regime of Victoria has spent per capita to date around 10 times the tax payers purse on its response to lockdowns / covid as NSW and cost the State in lost GDP around 10 times the amount of NSW per capita to date and that gap is only increasing.

Thousands more small business and sole traders have closed or had to scale down in Victoria with a number of businesses and individuals moving out of the state since the pandemic commenced.

the Victorian Government in the meantime has given massive pay rises to themselves , public service bureaucrats who have remained on full pay while businesses in the CBD collapse or bleed.

The size of the public sector has increased significantly throughout covid with a significant percentage ( non first responders and non health care providers ) of them at home doing nothing on full pay much like they do normally.

Businesses in places like Mildura with no Covid recorded at all and never likely to asked to close down with inhabitants locked in their homes 22 of every day some 550km from the recorded cases in Melbourne for at least 4 months to date throughout the pandemic.

To give you an idea of how draconian this Socialist Government is in Victoria we are again locked down for the fourth time for at least 21 days this time around with some 30 active cases in two suburbs with 6 million people allowed to leave their homes for 2 hours a day , none in ICU , none in hospital , no deaths in the community from Covid for 6 months pleading for more dedicated hubs to built for quarantine alone that the Feds have to fund.

Needless to day the vast majority of those who have left and those that have had to stay that have had their lives and livelihoods smashed by these responses to community outbreaks would never have voted for this Socialist Government in the next election still 2 years away and this Government like all Socialist Governments that care nought for individual and small business as long as they pay their taxes.

Its beyond dispute that the Victorian Government has intentionally decided on this action to punish those that did not vote for them in the last election.

They have botched hotel quarantine time and again , botched contact tracing and never come clean on the health advice to support these lockdowns that have crippled small to medium business many of them never to return.

As is typical of a socialist they never accept responsibility for their incompetence , stupidity and non -caring , non compassionate ideology and blame every one but themselves for their failings.

With all the advantages in keeping covid from the community that we have in Australia simply by closing our international borders and focussing on the elderly and vulnerable and leaving the rest to get on their with lives you could only have the outcomes to date and into the future with covid in a State like Victoria when a Socialist Government is in charge and the Federal Government refuse to intervene and let someone else take over the public health response.

The sooner we abolish State Government in Australia to better for all citizens its been an abject failure for 110 years plus and is past its used by date as they say.

What does everyone make of these Fauci emails that have been released? Surprised they haven’t been discussed on here. Potential cover up regarding a lab creating the virus and evidence from other countries that Hydroxychloroquine is effective yet he chose to say it wasn’t are 2 of the it’s people are talking about. All seems very dodgy.

Don't understand this. Last report we jabbed over 500,000 on June 3.

They seem to have contained largely speculation and discussion on the origin of the virus rather than hard evidence.
