We want to genuinely compete in all 4 competitions and not have to compromise just because someone is off-form or injured. The days of a 1st 11 should be consigned to history. We need to strengthen in order to do that.

It's a squad that is a long way away from "phenomenal" and just because the Chairman says so in his end of season corporate puff-piece doesn't make it so. There's a world of difference between realistically appraising your strengths and weaknesses and taking steps to address them to suggesting that this means you are "talking it down".

City will be aware…. we won’t be talking to Grealish’s people if there’s no release clause - we are not in for a £130m transfer… but I think we’d be in for him at £70m. The next couple of months will tell us.

Depends on the terms of the release clause, generally its a set fee to a champions league team
