For what it's worth I don't agree with this, and I don't think the club do either or they'd have just paid the money by now.

An organisation this big with people like Khaldoon involved isn't going to allow a swing from tremendous to appalling over £30m.

If the window ends now, then we've added a world class player to a League winning side. I'd like us to have a world class striker in the side, but if it doesn't happen for whatever reason I have full belief in the players and manager we have to compete for everything again.

Fairs.
The only thing i would say is - there should be some questions on the judgement of the club to go all in for a player playing for a club whose president is kind of difficult to deal with. I guess all of us predicted that.
Meanwhile letting go of a few other great transfer opportunities who have moved to other clubs.

we got through last year as everyone around us had their own problems and we found a way to get the job done? Liverpool wont have the injuries they had last season, the rags once Sancho and Varane find their feet will be a lot better? Chelsea have just added Lukaku and are about to add Kounde so will be much better and they beat us three times last season? Not fair on Pep when the club have brought money in and there is a relaxation of FFP to not back the manager for this year as the chairman said the club would?

I won't have full belief in anything. Maybe we can win the title again without a 9. Maybe this season it'll be much harder. Maybe Torres can blossom, or maybe he won't. But it is binary for me. And it will be either fucking appalling or tremendous. I'm sure others like you will have a different view and it is rare that single transfers bother me. But the 9 situation bothers me enormously.
 
Where is all this stuff about a shirt number coming from?
Kane knew 3 weeks ago that Grealish got the no. 10 shirt and by all accounts is still wanting and pushing for a move to City, so I'd say it isn't that important to him.

I know what Tolmie has said but do you think if this deal falls through they would revisit the Ronaldo option as a stop gap ? I mean we didn't even entertain Messi because of kane and that seems like a bad decision as it stands

especially as we truned down going for Messi as well??

We cannot be a title challenging side relying on Torres and Delap as our two strikers every week. Sure maybe Pep can work out a solution again with false 9s but it would be ridiculous not to address the situation when it's clearly possible. Can only see this going bad and panic station in January where we're looking at forwards.

Lukaku is and will be the marker for the press in the Kane deal once it is done, and while Kane is better at some things Lukaku is better than Kane at others, Lukaku is Club trained at Chelsea so is the more valuable, Txiki is in a battle with Levy that he can not afford to lose again.

definitely not important to him but another reason why his team can push for more cash. that's what he's paying his team for - to get the best deal they possibly can.

I can see this but why would City who also presumably know it deliberately choose JG to give the marketable 10 shirt to?

Perhaps this deliberate spanner gives City chance to opt out of this deal or are City really that image rights stupid?
 
I wouldn't bet on us not signing an alternative. Worth remembering that everyone said koulibaly or nothing last summer.

im not saying kane is a better deal im saying that it makes sense for him to be more expensive due to him being english (english player premium) and were dealing with levy.

We were pretty heavily linked to Joules Kounde soon after it became apparent we couldn't get Koulibaly and then obviously Dias got strongly linked. We haven't been heavily linked to anyone but Kane really this summer and there's a week left.
