Prostate cancer

Made appt to speak with GP as I'll soon be 60 and noticed few little symptoms. Thanks to OP if I hadn't seen this thread I probably wouldn't have bothered.
The doc’s finger up the jacksey is not pleasant OB but it’s definitely worth getting checked.

Btw, when the Doc has his “finger” up your arse, make sure he’s not got both his hands on your shoulders, good luck, hope all is OK.

Just pi**ed me self at that brilliant!!!! Made me laugh out loud that.
Similar laugh I had a while ago while getting examined the surgeon showed me the probe ,
On seeing it I asked’ are you not taking me out for a drink first ? , made the nurses laugh .

Just bought some of that Rooby tea not bad is it. Trouble is i love my sausages, bacon and beef. not sure i can give them all up.
I’m similar, I don’t eat a lot of meat but like the cheap stuff, bacon and sausage. I’m averse to any kind of fat (always ask to cut it off bacon) so steaks are not for me, with one exception, I like a nice fillet with very little fat, Aldi do the premium one for a fiver so I get those now and again.

As the saying goes “a little bit of what you fancy does you good”.

Same as me mate it’s the stuff I like but probably contributed to where I’m at. My youngest is a vegetarian so we’ve been doing two meals a week for months that are meat free. So I’m pretty used to quorn but couldn’t live on it . Free range chicken and fish I should imagine for me and the family now. We’ve down loaded the NHS healthy eating app as well another what scans your food as well before you buy it. Plus going to do loads of supplements with anti toxins etc . I’ve received some great advice from some on here in what to get etc . Got three rumps steaks in fridge for my birthday tomorrow… the two dogs are in for a treat . Definitely going to get the tea you and hammo have mentioned.

Never ever be afraid of seeing a doctor, no matter how embarrassing it is. Today I’ve had a doctor probe my arsehole, physically look at it from less than 12” away then sit down and talked to me about his findings. Doctors and medical staff have the utmost professionalism and respect for patients. If you ever feel that something isn’t quite right, please go and see a doctor and get checked out. In recent weeks I’ve had a colonoscopy, 2 fingers up the arse (not together before anyone cracks a joke!) then todays examination. Next up is an MRI scan to check for anything else that could be causing my issues.

Apolgoes to jump in on the OP’s thread, your post has already proved influential as a few members have booked appointments. Guys need to stick together, be more open and honest about things especially in the private regions of our bodies.

Get checked out blues!

OK, retired GP..be careful on supplements..there is "some" evidence that supplements like saw palmetto can reduce psa levels..my advice is next time at the GP ask for a PSA test before taking supplements..if then slightly high do not panic, urologists tend to follow the trend, and as a rough rule if it doubles, then investigate..there is an adage that many men die with prostate cancer and not from prostate cancer.. this means that people can be overtreated with treatments that can be devastating.Personally would only take supplements if have already had a PSA and am symptomatic. Please understand that this is general advice and follow your own instincts.

Hi all just a heads up from my original post I’m at stepping hill and Tameside tomorrow to see where we go with my diagnosis of prostate cancer , can I personally Thank you all for your support in the fight especially those who have taken time out to personal message me from which has helped massively. Tomorrow is a tough day which we’re up for . I’ve started fundraising on Sunday and it’s gone so well please take time to tap on the link. If anyone of you want to take part in this your more than welcome. Honestly all your support with me has given myself and my family even more determination to fight this all way.
I’m not after donations but if anyone wants to join us from Glossop to Edale on the 5th of March you’d all be welcomed.
Again thank you all it really is something from you lads and lasses.
March the month for prostate cancer.

Did it give an indication of how much Bert ?

I know some medications, like Finasteride and Dutasteride can literally half your PSA score within 6 months of using ( so anybody who does use them, make sure your GP is aware).
Thanks

Just had call with GP. Having bloods done during week and appointment with Dr next Monday for examination. She seemed to think my symptoms maybe enlarged rather than cancer. Not sure what to tell my partner as she's really struggling with her mums health at moment as she's been taken into hospital with planning for end of life.

I’d just maybe say little at the moment ob as from getting a raised psa level to final diagnosis can take months . It’ll add to your partner’s mind as well as obviously she’s got an awful lot to deal with.It took us 6 months in total from raised psa to my cancer diagnosis but saying that things are moving through the system quicker now . Just thank goodness we have an nhs . Hope everything turns out well you pal.
Keep thinking positive and keep away from negative thoughts if you can. Good luck with everything.

Well done for getting checked, it’s a tough call for you mate without adding to your partners worries just be as calm as you possibly can and maybe is it to late to say it’s a routine check ?

It’s tough as she will need your support for her Mum, there is no binary decision, people and situations are different.

At this time I have my best mate of 52 years who is living with incurable prostate cancer and another pal who's had his prostate removed. Along with @A57 the snake and now yourself this is a disease to get checked asap if anyone gets the symptoms:

Wanting to pee a lot
Weak urine flow
Back problems
Blood in urine or (ahem) semen
Trouble in getting a stiffy
Or
A history of Prostate cancer in Father’s or Brother’s, also Black men are more at risk.

Once diagnosed Prostate cancer is 80% curable and as @Berts Neck said most suffers die with it rather than from it.

Best wishes hope all goes well.

Cheers, this thread made me make the call. Have at least 6 symptoms - blood in semen, struggling to get erection, stop/start urine flow, having to get up to go middle of night almost every night, drips when think had finished and already washed hands, thinking at times not doing to make toilet on time as need to go asap, weak flow plus I'll be 60 soon. Bloods booked for Wednesday morning GP appointment for examination next Monday and need to drop off urine sample
