Prostate cancer

Yes mate it was a shock initially but these things happen it’s been done purposely and as I said we did see the lighter side of it.I appreciate you must have to make some uncomfortable calls that in it’s self can’t be easy. It’s life changing and I’m definitely taking heed in all the advice on here especially about the dieting and fasting is definitely interesting.
Sorry not been done purposely I meant to of typed.

Try and get to the ideal beginner's window of 18 hours fasting as a start.
Cheers , I’m think I might start at a weekend when I’m less active . Some great advice here , all very much appreciated

Weekend is a very good shout!

From experience, I know that you will struggle to get past the 14/15 hour mark because your body is trained for that and you will clock watch! As soon as you do, it will be on your mind!

When hunger thoughts creep in the first time, drink. Water the first time and then if it persists, switch to green tea/ black coffee and engage your mind.

I haven't tried a timer, but it may work for you to gauge when you've reached your goal. Just try not to check on it.

Good luck and let us all know how it goes for you!

So finally after many months of appointments and Check ups I on Thursday got diagnosed with prostate cancer , this might sound a bit mad but I’m now finally relieved that it’s now done it’s taken a while to get this all sorted and I know I got back to the Jack grealish thread when I mentioned this . Unfortunately for someone of my age (53) on Wednesday it’s an aggressive form but I’m under stepping hill and Christie’s now so I’m in good hands. If anyone has any experience of this it’d be nice if it’s shared either on here or a pm. I’m ok even though I always had a bad feeling of the final diagnosis it’s a shock that the Gleeson score was quite aggressive I’ll fight this all the bloody way . I’m grateful I’ve got great family and friends around me , please don’t take this as a sympathy post more of any advice and experience in this is always welcome.
So there it is I’m type of bloke whose pretty open with things and this on here will help .
Finally please anyone of you who’s getting towards the age of 50 please, please have a mot at your doctors/GP . Do not ignore this prostate cancer IS the silent assassin.
Take care all you and up blues.

Really sorry to hear of your diagnosis A57, but good luck and I’m glad you took the initiative to start this thread.

Unfortunately far too many men neglect their health and it shouldn’t be like that. Surely it is better to be proactive as much as possible, rather than reactive?

I have my medical/physical every year and that includes having my prostate checked. I’m sure it’s a highlight for my doctor and she really looks forward to sticking her finger up my bum, but it’s nothing compared to women and what they have to endure. Flattened tits and legs spread wide apart while some stranger pokes around taking samples. I have a PSA test bi-annually, but was warned by my doctor that they have a little history of false positives.

Next Wednesday I go for a stress test. The last I had was 10 years ago and I’m using that as a benchmark for the next. I don’t want to have a stroke or heart attack and be advised, “If only you had.........”.

I had a colonoscopy about 10 years ago, but now you send in a sample, which is a little safer than shoving a scope up my rectum and risking damage.

There is an additional health issue that I would like to highlight and that is TESTICULAR CANCER.

About 14 years ago I was chatting to a friend of mine who is a nurse and she asked me if I checked for testicular cancer. I didn’t, but I know my nutz don’t I, if there was any issue there, I’d know!!

Well, apparently I didn’t know and when I did check, I found a small lump the size of a small pea. This was about 10pm at night, so I headed straight to Emerg and had it checked. The doctor was pretty sure it was a cyst, a later ultrasound confirmed her diagnosis and a trip to see a urologist concluded the same. I just wanted everything checked to be sure. As the urologist advised me it would continue to grow and my poor little nutz are now dwarfed by their big brother, but at least there were no cancer issues. Without checking, I would have been blissfully unaware of this problem until the size was more noticeable and had it been cancer, it may have been too late.

A note for you young ‘uns............although it can affect any age, this is more prevalent between ages 15 and 35, so I would urge every guy to make a simple check on a regular basis, or if you are a parent with sons, at least make them aware of it.

I had a mot just before Xmas I’m 56 . The Dr told me the blood psa test isn’t very accurate and should be done in conjunction with a physical examination. My psa blood test came back ok and examination was also ok . I still piss a lot though at night , Putting down to not being a heavy sleeper and needing a piss is in my head . Good luck fella hope everything turns out ok for you .
I take Tamsulosin for night peeing caused by benign swollen prostate. Works well. Prescription only.

It’s these stories like yourself and I what hopefully helps us all out . And very well done for sharing.

I was diagnosed with Prostate cancer two and half years ago. Had Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy and stopped Hormone Therapy a few months back. My cancer had already spread so the operation was a no go. The first thing I would do is drink decaff coffee and tea. If your diet isn't great, change that too, Find out what the Superfoods are and introduce them to your eating. Food and drink are important. I had half a spoonful Ginger and Termaric everyday and also a tablespoon of Cider Vinegar, tastes awful but its really good for you. All these things help. I was informed by Christie's the cancer feeds on meat, Bacon Sausage and any processed meat like Ham being the worst, so I stopped eating them too. Do exercise every day, even if its just a walk round the park, take vitamin D, B1 and B12. Go on the cancer websites, there's loads of information out there. Christie's is a wonderful place with great people but they haven't lived with cancer. Talk to people who have. The mental side can be as hard as the treatment side but its all doable. You sound positive and that will go a long way. Chemo was tough but that's also doable and Radiotherapy wears you down a bit. Most of all enjoy life, go for a pint or a dance or whatever is your thing. Good luck. Up the blues.
