Russian invasion of Ukraine

A B52 has just left RAF Fairford heading north east. It looks like Norwich is the target.
any chance it might make a turn north west and be heading towards the merseyside area? we could all do with a bit of cheering up

I’ll bite, even though I addressed this elsewhere…

Other than extreme hyperbole, it is amusing to see the US, often counted on to be the world’s policeman, described as the “greatest threat to world peace.”

The UK, Europe, Japan, S. Korea, and for 70 years the Philippines have all welcomed that “threat”!

As to the dictators yo whom the US has cozied up, it is clear that absent coups, the US has had to deal with them.

So, which is it you’d like?

Prop up and ally with dictators or coups? Just let us know!

It is in the US backyard! And, just as Europe has been to Britain, South America is to the US.

As for the Pacific, I guess when you’ve fought a brutal war across the worlds largest ocean, you tend to try to develop allies in the region so you don’t have to project (naval) strength from across thousands of miles of open ocean.

Accordingly, once that foothold has been secured…at great loss of life, I might add…you gave every right to patrol those international waters, including steaming through the 100 mile wide Taiwan Strait to ensure China understands that Taiwan is still an independent, western style democracy.

If you find long telegraphed cruises through international waters aggressive, then I guess we are going to have to have a more serious discussion about building new archipelagos in those open waters and setting up military outposts including deep water ports and looong runways!

Claptrap!

The Soviets tried to ship offensive nukes to Cuba, creating a clear and present danger AT THE HEIGHT OF THE COLD WAR and the US had no choice BUT to blockade the ships and meet nuclear threat with nuclear threat!

The US has no God-given right to police the world. The choice between coups and supporting dictatorships is a false dichotomy.

They do try to prop up democracies and undermine dictatorships (or did beforeTrump took a liking to the whole Dictator thing!)

You claimed that, except for during the Trump presidency, the US supports democracies and didn’t support dictatorships. Obviously, this is not true. It has supported dictatorships and continues to do so. It has even acted to replace democracies with dictatorships in the past. The US has no right to replace regimes, democratic or not, as it sees fit.

…but are not, and do not, amass troops all along the borders of countries and then play dangerous games of chicken.

My point, which you appear to have completely missed, is that the US does in fact deploy its military to the borders of other countries. It constantly sends its aircraft carriers and warships to the Persian Gulf and the South China Sea. It has constructed about 750 military bases in over 80 countries, with the majority bordering countries that it has designated enemies. It even illegally occupies countries. I can assure you that those countries surrounded and occupied by US bases see this as a persistent threat. No country has been involved in more wars than the US throughout its short history.

Evidently, Russia finds NATO expansion throughout Eastern Europe and, in particular, on its borders with Ukraine to be a grave threat to its security. You have conveniently ignored the fact that the US shipped nuclear-armed or nuclear-capable weapons to Germany and Turkey amongst other countries during the Cold War. It also had a constant patrol of bombers armed with nuclear weapons circling Russia’s borders. But, it wouldn’t accept the USSR deploying nuclear weapons to Cuba. The US has a history of demanding from other countries what it wouldn’t accept for itself.

Imagine the US response if Mexico suddenly decided to join in a military alliance with Russia or China? Fucking no chance they would allow it. I have a soft spot for the US, lived there for two years and know some incredible people from there, but fuck me, they are scouse level delusional when it comes to self-awareness of how their conduct impacts the rest of the world.

They’re indoctrinated from birth. Told repeatedly that their country is “exceptional”. Made to pledge their allegiance every morning in school. Taught a selective history. Sing the national anthem before various events. Flags plastered everywhere. Fed half truths or outright lies by their media.

All mind games isn’t it with that ****.

It’s estimated Putin is one of the wealthiest people on the planet and still he has to pull this shite rather than focusing on his people and their economy. He’s a sociopath for sure.

He doesn’t give a fuck about Russia beyond raping the place of its resources and getting wealthy beyond all measure. A sociopath indeed.

Imagine if the US had annexed portions of Mexico.

Would never happen ....
I know that, I'm trying to explain that Russia is no saint in this situation either.. lot of hate America in here.. I don't like how the US conduct themselves around a lot of the world.. but If they weren't doing it then China or Russia would be doing it instead of some other overpowered country.. All countries should just deal with their own shit and stop trying to fuck with other countries or land grab because they think it's their god given right.
