Top players want Champions League. He won't get that at the rags for the foreseeable. Not going there IMO

It would be quite a coup for them to convince a player of de Jong’s stature to join them in their current state, and with no CL to offer him next season - new manager or not.

I can’t see it happening for them. Although I definitely can imagine their fans getting carried away with themselves, and giving it out to anyone who’ll listen about the players desperate to join the next in their conveyor belt of bang average journeymen touted as the New Messiah and bestest Manager ever!

They bought Adama Traore.

Paul Pogba is more consistent than him.

They’d jump at the chance of buying Sterling.
 
What’s he on? About £250k a week?

For £60m and have him cut that to £200k a week (plus bonuses) it’d be a very smart signing.

I don’t think Barcelona would want Sterling. They’ve got Ferran, Dembele, Adama and Ansu Fati. It could potentially happen if they don’t make Adama’s move permanent and Dembele doesn’t extend.

Been linked with Raphinha too. Sterling to replace Adama and Raphinha to replace Dembele makes sense. Wonder how much they’d want on top of Sterling for De Jong.

They certainly wanted him back in late November when they asked City to take him on loan when also brokering Torres.

At this stage, Barca are still having to portray they are relevant, even if it means taking big names like Aubameyang.

Sterling earns a similar amount to De Jong right now, in terms of the wages he agreed to defer during Covid.

For Barca, taking a reputational England player for effectively nothing, whilst also offloading De Jong's wages, is an open goal if presented.

Let's remember, they took Sergio on a free and he was essentially on his last legs.

Again, all because of his huge name and Barca trying to convince the wider football world they are still glamorous.

De Jong and Haaland in one window would be insane. De Jong is not just a CDM he is an incredible midfielder that can play anywhere in the middle. His passing range and vision is brilliant, he sees passages of play before anyone else on the pitch sort of like KDB.
