Courts don't tend to take "whataboutery" defences very well. He's been named and shamed in the MSM including his address which is out of order for a few seconds of daftness. (I am assuming that's him)

Yes but it doesn't hurt to speak to a solicitor first. The apology to the club might play in his favour as a mitigating factor but worth seeking advice on it first.
