I know what you mean but, imo, defenders have a better view of what's going on ahead of them than midfielders, particularly attacking midfielders
Of course, as an ex-central defender, I would say that!
Did you see Dias on the bench v Villa.. rousing the players at 2-0 down when everybody else looked crushed
natural leader and organiser. Got to be him
De Bruyne only plays attacking mid cos we have other players more specified for that position. IF he had to, he could play def mid. De Bruyne is more box-to-box than just an attacker, but we have suitable midfielders that occupy those positions where he doesn't have to.
Defenders marshal the back line. Midfielders marshal the middle AND affect the attack as they dictate what happens. The captain is about a leader, not what can be seen.
Leading and organising from the bench?
De Bruyne plays through injury to drive the team!
As everyone can tell I have HUGE admiration for De Bruyne as he plays like I would want to for City! I REALLY hope he gets the armband to continue our legacy of great capts of great teams!
He earnt the respect of the dressing room within weeks of arriving.Dias needs to earn a little more respect and gain some experience first.
it’s all well and good to shout your defenders into place, but being the Captain is so much more than that.
I would tend to agree, although I’ve always found it strange to have keepers as Captain.I know what you mean but, imo, defenders have a better view of what's going on ahead of them than midfielders, particularly attacking midfielders
Of course, as an ex-central defender, I would say that!
The term “greenhorn” springs to mind.He earnt the respect of the dressing room within weeks of arriving.
He transformed the season for us, his leadership and commitment was magnificent, even more so considering his age.
The real deal more appropriate. The term “greenhorn” springs to mind.
We can agree to disagree. That’s still OK in 2022.The real deal more appropriate.
Yes it is.Is it the players that vote on this? (at the club, not on this forum!)
