He signed a 4 1/2 year deal just 4 months ago, seems a bit far-fetched to think he would already be desperate to leave the club his been with since he was 10.

I don't think he is desperate to leave but things change quickly in football. I hope just a loan move.

Agree, I think in the big games this is the formation we use Kalvin and Rodri their to protect the back four and win the ball back launching quick counters using Haaland as a target man to link up play when we break.

Is there any reason why we can’t just use Yangel Herrera as backup DM? Seems highly rated enough and we haven’t got a 20m buyer as discussed last season.

Even Douglas Luiz being bought back at £25mil would make more sense IMO.

I don’t think Phillips is either, especially for the numbers quoted. Luiz is younger, less injury prone and has more PL experience, and is at least 20mil cheaper. If Phillips didn’t have a few decent games for a very defensive England, I don’t think there’d be any difference at all.

After seeing him up against McGinn and McTominay in that second half as a deep lying midfielder for Ukraine, I’d be telling Zinchenko he’s our back up defensive mid for games against bottom half teams and saving the Phillips money for something else.

Phillips looks like another Jack Rodwell, Scott Sinclair or Patrick Roberts…….WHY?? There are better options out there.
