It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

Letting zin go so early could be a mistake we end up regretting .

Seems very odd as he didn't seem to want to leave and we don't have a replacement at the start of the season

This window had so much promise, but it’s not looking good as things stand. The squad is far too thin in a WC year to be challenging for multiple trophies. We’re going to be one or two injuries away from our season falling apart. It’s very clear now that the club made a serious error with regards to Cucurella and letting Zinchenko leave. It’s not for the first time either.

We desperately need a left-back, which I think we’ll get even if it means bringing in someone far below the level of quality that we were targeting. But we also need pace out wide. The games against Bayern and Liverpool showed that Mahrez isn’t able to keep up with Haaland, and that’ll undoubtedly cost us vital points this season. If Bernardo goes then he’ll need replacing too.

The main issue I see is that we don’t have the numbers nor the quality to play with wingbacks offering width and pace out wide. We’re also at least one player short of playing with wide wingers. Haaland won’t work miracles every game playing against teams defending with a low-block for 90 minutes.

Still hard going from a prem proven pep player at left back to someone from a bum league
This thing of prem proven player is BS. Not only PM players tend to be equal to other leagues, but they are far more expensive.

Transfer from other leagues for us in the last 5-6 years: KDB, Bernardo, Rodri, Ederson, Bravo, Cancelo, Zin, Laporte, Dias, Mendy, Gundogan, Jesus, Torres. Only bravo and Mendy were truly awful (Torres came for cheap and left us a very good sell).

Transfer from PL for us: Sterling, Stones, Grealish, Mahrez, Walker, Ake. By far the other group is stronger(Dias, Eddie, KDB, Rodri and Dias are with Walker our most important players). Not to mention that Grealish was 100m and Ake 40m, both ridiculous prices.

Love how there's one report about pep being unhappy with the balance (a fair and balanced assumption based on the standings of the squad) and many are using it to pretend their comments of the club being an utter fucking disaster are actually spot on.
I can't speak for anyone who thinks that, as I think we're FAR from a disaster. In fact I think Cancelo can play LB against most teams but can also more importantly give Walker cover on the right. JWE can be the young guy on the left in a pinch. That said we need a left footed 1st team-ability LB to complete the squad. Going into the season without one would absolutely be cause for concern, not PANIC. not DISASTER, concern. That said I 100% expect us to land that type of player before the window closes. You can't lump everyone into the sky is falling group. I think we're the best team in the world AND I'm concerned. The two are not mutually exclusively.
Okay so it sounds that like me you don”t know what it was he said and are unsure who he is supposed to have said it to. Hopefully somebody at some point will have read the actual article and tell us exactly what he said and the context of what he said.
I did read it. If someone wants go over it line by line they're most welcome.

The defensive sarcasm about how we are abject failures who have won nothing recently really is tedious. Those of us with the temerity to be questioning are somehow, spoilt, lesser fans. Twas ever thus.

Maybe because every season those with the temerity to be questioning are proved wrong as we are involved in every later stage of every competition and win 4 out of 5 league titles.

I don't think it's that, it's more that just, on a personal level at least, I recognize that we've had some spectacular years and the squad will be going through a small bit of transition which will take time and I'm relaxed enough about that. Might not win the league this year but we'll be back.

I remember another set of fans who were quite famous for saying that, because they won everything in the past, they would continue to do so going forward. Can’t think who it was now. I know it didn't turn out well.

We're hardly plucky underdogs without a pot to piss in. 4 out of 5 is brilliant, but there is something the club are always going on about , which we fall short in yearly. Our squad usually stretched by then.

Agreed. The club rightly have lofty ambitions as should the fans. If we feel the club has neglected a key area in the squad it’s not being spoilt or a flapper to point that out.

I personally have concerns as the squad which was too small last season is currently 1 smaller. I am desperate for us to win the champions league and I don’t feel we have the squad depth to challenge for every trophy currently, not to mention an injury to Walker or cancelo and we could probably kiss the champions league goodbye due to the standards that comp demands.
