I’m always giving extra hours at work due to staff shortages and like you, was classed as an essential worker so no furlough.

Most weeks I will rack up at least 2-3 hours in unpaid overtime and like you, I caught the covid and had to take enforces time off because of it and like you, the company couldn’t seemingly wait to deduct my salary.

It boils your piss.

totally agree even though I benefit from the DD discount. Worst still is the prepay levy which needs scrapping as well. It should be one price for everyone no matter what.

And yet, we still just get on with it, do our best, because that's the way we were brought up. With values.
This country has its fair share of piss takers, which I've always tolerated.
But now we are ran by a bunch of piss takers, I can't help but feel a little cheated.
I'm witnessing a demise of a once fine nation, and it saddens me, and I know it can't be fixed, not in my lifetime anyway, because the people with money don't need to fix it.
I know I'm a simplistic soul, but surely it's not too much to ask for our children to have at least as good of a life, if not better, than us?
If not, then what's the point of human beings?
All this intelligence, creativity, multiculturalism, nurturisam, and love for one another, that we all witness day to day, yet we strive to move backwards, with war, murder, racism, hate, etc.
I really don't get the modern world.

I've had some numbers through from So Energy and Eon.

Gas is going from £20pm to £98pm and electricity is going from £59pm to £125 (fixed tariff offer). These are estimates based upon usage and not what we'll pay as DD.

Not the end of the world but the gas has more than trebled so yeah not great!

There seems to be so much variability. We have a two bed roomed detached bungalow. Built in the 30's so has a tendency to be cold and damp. August bill was £78 for gas and electric. If you apply the "double whammy" effect, then I guess I could be looking at £300 a month from October, but certainly not the £600 I am seeing from some posters!!??
 

Energy bill at celebrity chef's pub now at £420,000 amid cost of living crisis​

A celebrity chef has revealed that the annual energy price at his pub has risen from £60,000 to £420,000 as the cost of living crises continues.
Tom Kerridge has warned that the"ludicrous"price hikes have left the hospitality sector facing a "terrifying landscape".
Mr Kerridge told the BBC that one of his pubs has a monthly electricity bill of £5,000 – but this is set to increase to £35,000 when his contract ends in December.

If something isn't done the whole hospitality sector will either shut down or just open up at weekends.

Something will surely have to be done. This is literally going to affect everyone apart from the mega rich. That price increase Tom Kerridge is facing will perhaps see even the likes of him having to take drastic action. I'd imagine his flagship pub in Marlow is the one that makes the most money and other places he runs don't make as much profit. Even if he only passes half or less of that increase onto his customers, many who could previously afford to eat at his restaurants simply won't be able to afford it.

At this rate, the only places left open in the country in the hospitality sector will be Wetherspoons pubs ffs!
 
Can people please stop posting things like "My bill was £72 last month". Start quoting in terms of £KWH and how many KWH you're expecting to use. Otherwise it's just nonsense numbers that mean very little to anyone.

We all know that unless the government do something we’ll all be paying 52p per kWH for electricity and 15p for gas which will be unaffordable for about half the population. Businesses will be paying even more making the price rises they will be forced to make to their products and services unaffordable to even more cash strapped people.
The government literally have no choice but to do something fairly drastic or we will be in a 30s style depression by the new year with businesses shutting down, mortgage defaults and public services breaking down.
