Running thread

I've had this issue with my heel for the past couple of weeks - feels a bit stiff and sore.
I've had similar before but it usually goes away but this doesn't want to.
I stretch out a lot (and do lots of yoga and pilates too) so not sure what else I can do.

Not particularly painful running with it but it's always there.

Wondering if it might be trainer's (Hoka Clifton 8's)?

Maybe some foot exercises?(try the recover app) or massage?

Yeah, I'll look into those.
This type of pain historically went away rather quickly, but this isn't shifting.
It's more of an annoyance that causing a great deal of pain and I have upped my running of late.

I'll try that app and massage - thanks!

So now dust has settled this was my day yesterday. We'd booked hotel near Hyde park night before due to train strikes and thought that might reduce stress morning of the HM. Had pasta and chicken with water for dinner then a pint in bar next to hotel. Race morning alarm set for 6.45, got ready, coffee and banana (my usual pre run breakfast) they made my way to the village. It was a 25 minute walk through Hyde park and really nice that time of the morning with the sun rising and mist covering the ground. Bag drop opened at 7.30 and when I got there no queues so did that, some stretching used the toilet before queues got too long. Had another banana and water while stretching and soaking up the atmosphere. I was in yellow wave and 2nd from back so everyone made their way to the start. Had to hang around for about 20-25 mins while other waves set off. I used the time to stretch a little. I made mistake of being near front of the wave so felt needed to set off faster than wanted to due to crowds behind me. Once it evened out I'd more space and settled into my pace. I'd planned to follow the 2.30 marker but didn't see it so just kept eye on my watch re my pace. Was great course plenty of support which certainly helped me during tough spots around 8/9 miles. I had saltchews, jelly babies and bottle of water. Plan was saltchews every 5k. Jelly babies and sip of water roughly every mile from about mile 5. On my training runs I'd stop and walk when taking on fuel but yesterday kept going. Did have to stop once to use portaloo but luckily queue was ok and only few minutes lost. Crowds keep shouting out names which really helped, loads of DJs and bands on route which again gave me little boost when needed. Felt a really energy burst at end and was watching the clock which was ticking over at about 2.50 as I approached finish line so knew I was close to 2.30. Collected my medal, t shirt, got few drinks and then visited the prostate cancer stall ( charity and raised over £1,000) for a chat. My other half got some food from stall while I went to collect bag. No queue and woman recognised me so had chat with her for a bit. Walked 30 mins to Victoria to get train home which meant I could stretch legs a little. Went into bar for couple pints and had apple pie and ice cream then train home. Had a truly wonderful day and was great experience. I admit a tear ran down my cheek as I crossed finish line and my partner was waiting me. Think I might be able to say I'm a runner now as felt like a fraud before. Thanks to everyone on here for their help, support, advice and good wishes. Cheers

Great story mate and I think a lot of it will resonate with a lot of us.

I felt euphoric for a couple of days after one of my runs. Loved the memory of it, telling people about it and the satisfaction of achieving a goal I had worked so hard far.

Fantastic work on raising money also. Onto the next one now.

Have you thought about hiking? Yep sounds boring as fuck a long walk!! But once you get into it there's quite a few decent spots to go that aren't far from Manchester, places I did not know existed up until a few years ago
Better for you than all this running too, burn more calories plus the rucksack will help build strength. It’s how I got these calf muscles!!!

How long have you been running for, or training for it?
Are you part of a running club?

I enjoy running, regularly go out for 3 or 4 mile runs just on my own. Would like to train for a marathon one day.

I'm 60, did couchto5k during lockdown (really could not have ran for 2 mins at time). Once completed that just did few 5k runs round block then last year did 10k plan just to change it up a little. Did one 10k race other than that always ran on my own. Then a few parkruns and work colleague who runs suggested I try that Royal Parks half marathon as it's well organised and no hills. Signed up for that and when got entry did a 12 week training plan but I spread it out longer than the 12 weeks to allow for weeks I couldn't do long run due to holidays, work etc. Not in any kind if club but a mate runs a fitness club at home in Northern Ireland and when visiting did one evening of circuits with them. Got advice from guys on here and also some FB running groups I'm member of
