Its better that he went and gained match fitness and sharpness with the NT so he could be ready and in form for the 2nd part of the season.

If he's used sparingly it could be a good thing. Just back from injury and I have a feeling we'll need him.

Good to see him back on the pitch. Understandably off the pace and that cameo should put paid to any speculation about him going to the World Cup. Lad needs game time off the bench for us, probably up to March, but should prove invaluable when we get to the business end of the season.

If it takes him to March to get up to speed we have brought a dud!

He will make the squad, Southgate’s squad will have little surprises and ones he has played a lot will all probably make it.

Not necessarily, but if you look at our fixtures from December through January and early February, you’ll see that there are not many games where he’s likely to start and get the full 90 minutes. These are likely to be the games that determine the title. I think the fitness guys will thus be happy with easing him back over a prolonged period and then having him fully ready to go from March to the close.

I agree, he had a cheeky grin that said to me he knows he’s on the plane.

I thought he did well tonight, looked comfortable considering first minutes for a couple of months.

Southgate will likely run him into the ground rather than use him sparingly as he should at this stage recovering from injury, then we will have to go into the second half of the season with no Rodri back up as per the first half .
