The ref...
Whatever was happening, a goal for Wolves was not not going to be allowed to stand.
The ref...
So, are you saying that the game is being manipulated for commercial benefit? The huge conflict of interest with VAR is that the broadcasters supply the pictures and dictate the angles and shots shown. The same broadcasters who are beholden to the sponsors and who all make more money out of showing Utd and Liverpool than any other clubs. It would be commercial self harm for either of those clubs to be permitted to lose in the third round, so the true VAR picture is simply withheld and on we go with Liverpool winning the replay and everybody happy. It is the same reason why it was a nailed on certainty that United were getting Charlton in the League Cup draw.
Disagree. So let's have a look at the three seasons pre- and post-VAR.
Pre: 8, 3 and 7 penalties
Actually one more post-VAR than pre-.
You are using this year to date, which as far as I can tell is 0 penalties, to try to justify a point when it is just an outlier due to other factors, probably due to the fact they are crap this year.
You don't need to do it. I think most reasonable people would agree that the availability of VAR has led to a reduction in play-acting and trying to con the ref, as we saw very clearly, I think, at the world cup.
But this whole discussion started because the feeling was that, if someone trod on Salah's foot when he was running in the box at Anfield, he would get a penalty. Let's see if that happens and, if it does, what the result is.
Can't wait for dermott Gallagher tomorrow
See what spin he can put on things to prove the ref was correct
Just tried to record that. Went to TV guide for SSN, it is normallly listed as 11.30 am Ref Watch programme. It appears not to be on.
If clubs kicked off about being cheated the FA would be at their front door with a charge of bringing the game into disrepute. Yesterday stinks, and the FA know that sooner or later a stink disappears, never to re-appear, and then another stink comes along. As long as clubs don't kick up a fuss about being cheated at Anfield then it will just continue and be accepted as the norm .
Disagree.
Var has increased play-acting, increased players haranguing the ref and increased players going down at the slightest touch.
Do they really need one?So why haven’t Liverpool had a penalty this season ?
Won’t be on, they said last week Gallagher has a week or so off, guess they have no rights to the footage. Can't wait for dermott Gallagher tomorrow

Another ridiculous call,..where’s the clamour for rule change that we had after the Rodri incident,a few seasons back? And how the fuck is Salah not offside?
Yes absolutely, and VAR has just created a perfect way for the advertisers, sponsors and broadcasters to maximise revenue, audiences and influence. They want title races that go to the wire, the traditional superpowers in the cup finals and so on, because it directly increases revenues. It was largely glossed over at the time when a TV executive said after the Bradford - Swansea league cup final ‘this must never be allowed to happen again, we could not sell this match anywhere’.So, are you saying that the game is being manipulated for commercial benefit?

Completely agree and the reason that everybody goes along with it is … money.Yes absolutely, and VAR has just created a perfect way for the advertisers, sponsors and broadcasters to maximise revenue, audiences and influence. Perversely, having been traditional outsiders, we are now more likely than we were to benefit from this sort of stuff, because of the global appeal of people like Pep, KDB, Haaland. Global appeal equates to additional revenues and so on.
Most of the time the manipulation is subtle, but when it is a last minute winning goal against a protected club, they just ’lose’ the key picture and protect the revenue stream. As somebody who has watched and invested in football all my life and had a season ticket for 43 years, it saddens me to say it, but I genuinely believe that the game of football itself is largely clean, but it is totally manipulated by external commercial interests.
