It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

Jorginho has never even sniffed a league title at 31. Decent player but not a great help through a league season.

That being said it gives them some depth they previously lacked.
That’s it, he adds depth to their squad. It’s their league to lose as it stands, 5 clear with a game in hand.

It's so early. If they start to drift away it could become insurmountable but right now there is so much football to play. We've still got 6 points to play for against Arsenal and we've already shown we can beat them (this season and basically every season before that for about 5 years).

We've been further behind, with less long to go, and won the league, multiple times.

2012, 2014, 2021.

My concern isn’t our games against Arsenal, it’s the likes of Wolves, Brighton, Bournemouth etc as we get complacent at times and will drop silly points.
I agree, long way to go, but as it stands it’s there’s to throw away… I think they possibly will bottle it but we will see.

We don't need a lot of players, we need three key, top shelf ones.

A top class midfielder, a full-back for both sides.

Pep has made his mind up on Rico, as he has done on Ake. He loves Jack.

Walker won't be going anywhere just yet.

Phillips isn't going anywhere, nor Mahrez and Pep wants Gundo to stay for another year.

Anything else is dependent on Laporte and Bernie leaving in the summer.

Foden will become even more important and receive extra responsibility.

City spend £300m this summer on quality not quantity.

I would be very surprised if Bernardo, Laporte and Gundogan are here next season. Gundogan to me is the most likely to go, his contract is up, he’s a new wife and it’s much easier for him to get a decent deal this summer, after that it becomes more difficult due to age.

Bernardo is probably off as soon as someone comes up with a decent offer. Laporte the same. Question is whether anyone can afford them.

I’d love to see us look to the future with a proper midfielder like Bellingham to replace Bernardo’s energy if not his close control, Matheus Nunes to replace Gundogan’s ability to find space between the lines, then a competent left back and a right back to replace Walker. I wonder should we have been competing with Chelsea for Malo Gusto.

Mendy is Voldemort. He was mostly shite. If you want someone to overlap just play Gomez ffs.

Mendy was one of City's, Txiki's and Pep's worst ever signings. Undoubtably, even without the criminal charges.

Mendy was a million miles away from the quality of Cancelo or Zinchenko (neither being "natural" left backs).
Mendy was very good before his injury. We got 4-5 good games out of him before he became our equivalent to bez

City are too stubborn for our own good sometimes massive risk to go in CL knockouts and PL run in with the full backs we have

I don't see any change in how we're doing things to previous seasons where we've won so much. We're not stubborn, Pep's happy with our options and feels we have enough cover, and who are we not to trust him. Cancelo is a defensive liability at times, and he's a rotten egg in the squad at the moment so we're right to get rid. He's not been playing much recently anyway so what's the issue? Ake, Laporte, Gomez or if we get desperate we recall Wilson-Esbrand or play Lewis/Walker. There are solutions. We've won so much in the past 5 years and we've only had a proper LB for part of that time. Otherwise we've seen Delph, Zinchenko, Cancelo all be switched to LB and do a job.

Whilst we're all calling out for a "proper" LB, it's not harmed us having a team without one. Even this season we've beaten Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea twice in the cups and whilst the league campaign is mixed that's more on Arsenal's form than ours, we're not a million miles off where we need to be. Unbeaten in our CL campaign, and lost three games all season, one of which was an absolute robbery from officials and the other was due to Cancelo being a liability and us having a goal ruled out despite the ref being quite happy with letting things play on.

Even then he was shaky defensively. It was just a handful of games were our midfield and forward line tore the other team apart and Mendy barely had a finger to lift defensively but when he did he was exposed as a fraudulent defender. Zinchenko, Cancelo, Delph, Danilo, Aké, Clichy and Kolarov were ALL better than Mendy.

Pulis talking sense on SSN saying Chelsea have virtually destroyed their academy in the space of a month.
They have several players in the first team squad, a couple start pretty much every game. They are going to continue to produce good players that worst case scenario does exactly what we do and earn millions in transfer fees and future clauses.

Disagree there, first game of last season at Spurs, we had Mendy, Zinchenko and Cancelo on the books.

Now we have Gomez who's a Pere Guardiola Ponzi scheme and a centre half shuffling across.

It's woeful business.

Does it have to be so binary between quality and quantity?

We have a very small squad, one injury to a key player...

Also think just one midfielder doesn't improve us from being so ponderous.

Remain unconvinced by Bellingham. Think he looks just a decent English player.
