Jude Bellingham

Hr's a better player at 19 than Yaya ever was at that age.
IMHO, no chance! I first saw Touré during a pre-season game at the Etihad & he was head & shoulders above everyone on the pitch that day.

I'm sure he'd just moved to Olympiakos from Beveren for £1m, & I was screaming that Pearce should offer Olympiakos £1.5m to bring him here.

Barça saw his potential & bought him not long after & the rest was history...

I'd definitely disagree on this one. He has all the raw tools to be moulded into that sort of player. He can use his body well to protect the ball, has a good eye for a pass and his reading of the game is good for a young player. Six months under pep will see these attributes polished up to make him even better. We've got to remember how good a coach pep is, especially for midfielders.
I disagree. Look at Foden. Pep has been imploring him to learn to play with different rhythms and not be direct all the time for the past 3 years or so and there's still been no change from Foden so far hence why pep still cannot trust him to play midfield for city. Some players just have a tendency to be very direct and intense like Foden, KDB etc... From what I've seen bellingham is of that mould.

England right now does not have a modric or verratti who can dictate the game from start to finish which is what we desperately need. That's why Paul Scholes was THE english midfielder that pep singled out for praised amongst your gerrards and lampards because unlike them he had that ability to dictate tempo like your spanish and italian midfielders.

He was up against Joey Barton in midfield. I am not surprised Yaya looked good.

You can only compete with what's in front of you, but is anyone gonna argue that Yaya didn't go on to fulfill his potential as one of the world's best midfielders of his generation?

Birthday cake & being played in a 2-man midfield apart, Touré was an absolute force for Barcelona & Manchester City & more than proved himself at the very highest level.

This is no sleight on Bellingham, who's an exceptional player for his age. However for me, Touré was just something else at a similar age, & went on to prove himself without the early career hype that Jude's had.

He was 24 when he signed for Barca. He had a trial at Arsenal when he was 20 and nearly signed for them, so he was far from the finished article.

Bellingham has a long way to go, but i imagine in 5 years working at City under pep with our players he will be a very different player to extremely good player he is now.

Ahh. Glad we're judging a player and basing an opinion on a single pre-season game now.

What Bellingham has already done at 19 far surpasses anything Toure did. Stop being ridiculously biased.

IIRC, it was a work permit issue which prevented the Arsenal transfer. Yaya was then hawked around various clubs to boost his profile & value, which is why I'm sure he was at 4 clubs in 4 years. He was a special player & I couldn't believe our luck when we signed him...

Wind your neck in fella, I'm merely voicing an opinion ya plank...

And for that measure, what's Bellingham done at 19 so far?

Just heard some bloke on radio 5, may have been their snidey scottish left back, saying how 'hendo' doesn't get the recognition he deserves and he talked JB all the way through the world cup and made him a better player!!!

Yeah crazy to think what Arsenal missed out on there. Funny thing was when he came to us he'd never really scored goals, but for us he did. That season he got 20 odd goals for us was one of the best seasons any midfielder has ever had for us.

Imagine what Kev and Rodri will do for him then.

He was a Touré de Force! An absolute monster who had it all at his peak. That season where he scored 20 was as close to midfield perfection as you could get...

Then came cakegate! :-/

I didn’t see Yaya at the same age as Bellingham as he didn’t play for City and I don’t watch other teams. What I do know supporting City for 56 years is that peak Yaya was in my opinion the best midfielder we have ever had.
He'd have been around 20/21 when he played at the Etihad. He totally controlled the game that day & was simply majestic.

The players only had numbers on their shirts, so I didn't know who he was, but I noted his number & looked him up when I got home.

That's when I learned he was Kolo's younger brother & that work permit issues stopped him signing for Arsenal who promised to keep tabs on him, until Barça made their move.

He was always destined to end up at Arsenal one way or another. I'm just glad it's City who got the best out of him. He recently admitted that "Cakegate" was the biggest regret in his career, because it sullied his reputation at City & every time he's in Africa, people keep taking the piss out of him for it.

If not for that, I'm pretty sure he'd have a statue alongside Vinny, Silva & Aguero... Such a shame he blotted his copybook the way he did...

In the first half I can see what you mean. Pace and strength although no final ball that I could see. In the second half where was he?
He is completely different to anything we have in midfield just now and I'm not sure thats a good thing. Pace and strength great, but the ability to link defence with offence? ball retention? assists in the final third? I'm not seeing that.
But that is where the very tired joke is relevant.....we have 2 older lads on loan in the Championship who are literally not in his league. He is not even close to his full potential and that has to be factored.
