At some point SKY will wake up to the fact that Haaland is the biggest box office star in world football at the moment and could be very commercially valueable to them (with Grealish not far behind). SKY is fading into the background as a broadcaster because of its fixation on the 1990s. It has failed to move on with its audience.

Ballon D’Or winner this year/season. Who on the planet is better? Mbappe is a great player, but playing in an average league.

Apparently it is. I was talking to some Southampton fans in the pub yesterday who were going on about City only being good because of money. I told them City were about 13th in the net spend league over the last 5 years, they just wouldn’t have it and it’s clearly untrue cos it’s not what they’ve read in the press or seen on Sly

And they were the ones who have helped our net spend by buying our youngsters !

I don't know about being "decidedly second best" but that's only arguing semantics. What is undoubtedly true is we were definitely having difficulty coming terms with a mediocre Southampton side in that first half.(I remember only one chance for us before the 44th minute). In my opinion, Southampton wouldn't have felt embarrassed had the scoreline been reversed at half time.
The journalist who wrote that presumably isn't a City fan and doesn't have my blue goggles on. Therefore, I'd be inclined to not read too much into it.

I am always inclined not to read it. :-)

The broadcasting media in this country cannot move beyond the bad old days when success was synonymous with those dressed in red.

Their reluctance to let go of the past is going to be their downfall.

The Broadcasting rights in this country are going to hit new financial highs over the next few years.

The organisation that wins the race to broadcast the premier league, will have to leave sentiment and nostalgia behind them if they want to remain relevant.

Great post. You can't help but feel that the media and broadcasting rights are coming to a crossroads. The international market is burgeoning and yet Sky are cutting costs in many ways to try to keep pace. They are going in the wrong direction. Their sports offering has badly declined in the last five years. With illegal streaming rife, the £100-per-month satellite package feels like it's on borrowed time. It feels like, after three decades, the time for change is coming. With that change should come new ideas, new pundits and a new perspective. I, for one, would relish the end of Sky's hegemony. The offering of BT games is merely managed opposition, as far as Sky are concerned.
