Slightly off topic but the commentator mentioned about Englands current capt and defender out injured and if the England manager would consider bringing stef houghton back into the national side why is she not already back in the side anyhow..
Was discussed a couple of pages back in this very thread.

WHU weren't bad. Was a good game. Decent enough game. Next...

P.S. anyone going Utd v City, in Leigh. How do I get a ticket? Scrap that, clashes with men's game

As someone else already mentioned, there's some discussion about it a couple of pages back, but aside from reasons already mentioned there has been a suggestion from quite a few people around the women's football community and those who closely follow the England set up, that Steph didn't react very well when she didn't make the final Euros squad. There are definitely more obvious factors that have seen her lose her place - namely injuries, the emergence of other players and her age that are probably bigger factors, but I think she didn't leave the squad on great terms with the manager last year and that might well have made it even harder for her to find a way back.

Alex Greenwood and Chloe Kelly look like twins
I spent more than one occasion saying to myself WTF is Alex Greenwood doing up there? - (Second half, left wing, far away across the field!) - and it was Chloe Kelly al the time. I'm gonna have to take some binoculars - the number of blonde pony tails chasing about the ground is rather perplexing. I think it's time players wore coloured wigs.

Great performance but that is the very definition of a traffic cone keeper.

I mean, the clips are just the goals, so by definition she's not going to be making too many saves...

She's not that bad a keeper from what I've seen before, but yeah, the first and the last in particular aren't great attempts by her.

I watched the match, she was pretty poor throughout, but you are right, the highlights can be misleading. The issue was she barely made attempts to save any of our goals and some of our shots. She seemed to be off pace to the match in general, but perhaps it was just a bad game for her, as I haven’t watched her play otherwise.

Irrespective of what that keeper may or may not be able to do on the pitch, our Chloe is absolutely dangerous against any team she faces.

Her pace, toughness and awareness aren't things you can teach. Maybe the awareness to an extent, but some players will always be better than others. She was really coming into her own before her injury and now, in my opinion, strikes fear into other club and country sides.

I, for one, couldn't be happier for her. She appears to be a very nice and humble young woman. I know all these women work hard at their craft but I suppose I'm more familiar with Chloe's efforts. My daughter used to watch her training videos she put online during covid lockdown.

If I were putting a team together of the best players in the WSL, if I didn't make her my first pick she'd be right up there at the top of my list.

Completely agree.

BBC article on the restructuring of the WSL back in 2013. The focus is on the demotion of Doncaster Belles in to WSL2, described as "Morally scandalous... Unjust".

"Yet they were to be replaced in the top flight by Manchester City, who had never played in the WSL previously, as part of a restructure to split the league into two tiers."

The FA were entirely responsible for the realignment so not really fair for the BBC, in any way, to imply anything improper.

Its the BBC though
If i remember correctly, teams had to apply for the new WSL and certain conditions had to be met, which Doncaster did not meet so they never applied

It was very unfair on the Belles. Not City's responsibility though.
