PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

This squad is capable of achieving the treble, however as we all saw in the swamp derby there are plenty of factors out of our control. But let's say we do 2 out 3 and it's a couple of days before the CL final. You can guarantee there will be a surge in MSM content along the lines of "A senior PL official has stated, off the record, that the charges against MCFC are progressing so well the PL are confident of significant sanctions...". They have weaponised the allegations to such an extent, they are compelled to use them as and when.
The prize money for doing the treble would be well over £100m, the PL cartel will be dreading us doing it... With the possible sales of Laporte, Bernie and Philips added to the budget, we could be in for a huge transfer window !!!

100% support this as oposed to FFP to be honest, as it removes all the bullshit ambiguity.

How the hell do they create a fair salary cap across countries with different currencies, living expenses, amount of games & playing in different countries all built into a legal contract?

Are they saying you can’t pay more for playing in the premier league than the Macedonian league? Or will it be you can’t earn more than £500k per week? If so, how does that make it fair for 99% of clubs?

All it does is bring us closer to American style leagues with no promotion or relegation. There is too much American influence on the game and the day will come when finals will be played in American stadiums for American audiences and how you feel won't matter in the slightest.

I'd imagine it would be a maximum percentage of a clubs total out goings rather than X amount of pounds per player per week.

Simon Cliff who is described as the General Counsel of City Football Group, has been in post since 2009. He must be immersed in dealing with the charges on a daily basis, I can't imagine anything being of higher priority. Surely if the owners did not have absolute faith in him he would have been "transistioned" by now ?.
What! seems a bit harsh to chop his cock off

Not sure how a salary cap on its own will help. What's to stop huge signing-on bonuses to compensate? If it's not part of a wider set of rules, it could be an even bigger mess. Or am I wrong?

100% this

The whole process is a joke, this is a very serious matter yet there seems no public procedure which seems wrong and utterly bizarre from both sides.
To me this is the biggest scandal of all. Firstly UEFA and then the PL are able to smear our reputation by accusing us of more than 100 breaches of their own financial rules (some allegations are essentially fraud and false accounting). The process allows them to make these allegations without providing any evidence in the public domain and all subsequent deliberation happens in private.
UEFA didn't have a scrap of evidence other than some photocopies of magazine articles based on a handful historic emails. At least two of the mails had been fabricated and the full email trail (showing the crucial context) was never produced. The UEFA case was laughed out of court by CAS within hours and the wording in their judgement made it clear how they felt about the unjust process.
Now history seems to be repeating itself with the PL's unfair process. The only purpose of this politically motivated witchunt ("described as a drive-by shooting by the Red cartel" by football governance expert Mark Hendrick MP) is to damage City's reputation with the help of a dishonest media.

I can understand the confidentiality issues but even the process is not clear, has anything in terms of the process and timeline been announced?
If it follows the same path as the UEFA investigation there will be selective briefings to our commercial rivals followed by leaks to selected media outlets and these will be timed to cause maximum damage to our club. Not much has leaked out so far but I don't believe for one minute that Directors of LFC and MUFC have not been kept in the loop by their sources at the Premier League (and the EFL). I am sure the stories will surface before the FA Cup final or CL Final if we are involved in it.

One thing I will add as a positive is the recent accusation/charges have galzanised every single person involved with this football club.

I would say that the campaign by the american red shirt clubs has backfired and created the biggest own goal in the history of the game.

The week before the charges our team looked lost and broken, a couple of weeks later we are fighting like never before and performing like men possessed.

We have the opportunity of rewriting history, securing a treble and break even more records, individual and as a club..

Thank you to all involved.

Great posts as usual with you.
I mentioned something similar in the media thread earlier.
The closer we edge to the Holy Grail the more vociferous it will be. If we land the PL I expect a plethora of negative articles on a daily basis.
I expect this anyway in the week leading to the FA Cup final.

The salary cap is the best thing about the American game imo, it ensures that smaller teams in smaller cities can actually compete.

A salary cap isn't exactly a new concept, it's used in pretty much every other major sporting code around the world to good effect.

True but it helps with the draft system too. Like NFL for example. If there was no draft regardless of the wage cap im not sure that the likes of Baltimore Buffalo etc would fair well in comparison to Florida, LA & New York teams. It’s perfectly suited to the structure of their game. The best talent coming into the league goes to the worst teams, those bad teams get them for cheap for 5 years while the more established veteran players can pick their destination of the top teams who pick last in the draft for top dollar at free agency.

Oh yeah, we can expect a deluge of this sort of shizzle, dripping with same old clichéd bollocks....
