Your ideal central-midfield signing for next summer ?

Imagine what Pep could do with Caicedo from Brighton.
Mate, I've been imagining it since the end of the match tonight.

FDJ, Bellingham, Veratti annd kimmich are the ones who could replace gundogan without a massive drop off in quality. I think Phil will replace bernado on the right and we will bring in kovicic as squad cover.

If that were to happen and Bernardo stayed for the duration, then the triumvirate (Gundogan, Bernardo, de Bruyne) could all bow out in the summer of 2025.
It's 12 months too late mate. We need to be blooding their replacements from now whilst they're at their peak & not when they're finished with high end football.

At 60 minutes, KDB was physically fucked! He had his hands on knees & was blowing like a 1950s diesel engine doing a cold morning start. Next season his game time will have to be managed to get the most out of him.

Having said that, Thierry Henry said today it was amazing that KDB's playing at all with the ongoing personal issue he's currently dealing with.

Henry said it was a private matter, so wouldn't say what it was, but could that be why Kev looked like he was staring & pointing at the sky whilst crying after scoring the equaliser against Real last week?

Apparently a City insider also said we don't expect the issue to affect the rest of Kev's season. Whatever it is, I hope it gets sorted for the fella soon...

I’m not suggesting we don’t buy someone, just that we could keep all three until 2025. That would allow us to have, in 2025, say Foden (25), Bellingham(22), Perone(22), McAtee (22) and others fully blooded and experienced; the numbers in brackets would be their respective ages in 2025. Those youngsters could do the hard running for their elders over the next two seasons. I just can’t see us allowing two thirds of our attacking midfield and all that experience to leave this summer.

We dont get a choice with Gundo really and by all accounts if Bernardo brings us an offer, we have promised to not stand in his way and we set a dangerous precedent if we force him to stay.

I get that. All I'm saying is KDB & Gundog can't be expected to play every three days for the next two years. Their bodies won't take it.

Yes, both are still crucial to City, but going forward their game-time will need to be carefully managed.

Again, would new signings be prepared to sit on the bench for two seasons as KDB & Gundog play their way into retirement? I very much doubt it.

If I were told I was being sought to shadow either player & share duties with them for two seasons with a view to me replacing one over a phased period, I'd be happy with that.

It's kind of like the apprenticeship Rodri had with Fernandinho. Two different types of players, but both equally effective. By the end, Rodri was the main man with Fern being rotated to give Rodders a rest, until Dinho moved on & Philips was brought in as his replacement.

This is how I see the transition from KDB, Gundog & Bernardo to whomever their replacements will be...

I appreciate that they might want to leave, but I also think they're clever guys and that we're a clever club. If they do decide to leave, then wherever they pitch up, it's going to be a huge step down (professionally and emotionally) from the current highs they are experiencing. Similarly, we know that new midfielders take a season to bed in with our system, so that would be worryingly disruptive if they were both to leave.

We should offer Bernardo a bumper payment for seeing his contract out and then he can go back to Benfica in 2025.

I agree but I won't hold anything against Bernardo or Gundo if they do the business this year and fancy a change in the summer. They might want away from the extreme standards of Pep and the sheer mental and physical toil it puts on them.

Both will head into the sunset and in Gundos case anyway, wind down in a slower league for a couple years and enjoy tapas every night on a terrace.

That's why I advocate getting the younger players in around them now. We're on the ascendancy and any player worth his salt would jump at the chance to join.

I agree, but they'd be wise to look at Fernandinho and Kompany. We milked every last drop from them and they got everything out of us. In the last week, neither Gundogan nor Bernardo has shown any signs of being on the wane, so they shouldn't be thinking of the easy life just yet, and we know how to look after our players.

If either Gundogan or Bernardo leave, I want Enzo Le Fee as the replacement. Even if Gundo doesn't leave I want Le Fee.

I think he'll be a perfect replacement.
