To be fair, id barely heard of rodri before we signed him. Hes now the best DM in world football. Trust the club, very rarely do they miss and often they surprise us in the long run

Well yeah but Akanji and Ake were signed as depth and not replacements for anyone. Same goes for Kovacic, he ain’t replacing Gundo or Bernardo. He with Foden going in centrally with McAtee behind him we still would need a Gundogan replacment if needs be

I think outside Goalkeepers we don't often sign direct replacements, there was no one obviously signed to replace Toure, Aguero, Silva etc when they retired
Sometimes because of inexperience/ youth players look a bit more developmental like Gomez,Torres and Alvarez but most are expected to compete for first team spots from early on, depending on how they settle.
