Autophagy (and fasting).

I asked my GP the same question when she told me about intermittent fasting.
She said it's unhealthy to not eat for 2 or 3 days.
The body needs vitamins, proteins, fats and carbs as well as sugar (natural sugar) to maintain the health of your organs.
Just stopping eating can lead to many different problems. So definitly no health benefits.

But a 'General Practitioner' would say that as they don't study for this as an expertise. The have whatever general knowledge they know about.

There are NHS successful trials and specialities in fasting for weight loss and diabetes, so they would be hocus pocus according to that GP!

There are some expert Docs that do 'Ted Talks' and have their own channels on the subject.

We, already, know how the body can survive on next to nothing for a month, so a couple of days is nothing in a controlled setting.

Oh sorry, I forgot Mr anti-vax knows everything.

Even more about the human body than a doctor. :)

Well, firstly, you know I'm not 'anti-vax'. You're body, your choice. Same for me.

Give yourself 10 jabs a year for all I care.

Secondly, I never said I knew more than a GP, but Docs with specialities in these subjects seem to have more research into these subjects than a GP that often look into these subjects based on the expertise of those Docs.

Oh yeah... :)

Last 4 days, I've gone back to fasting.

1st day, I did 16 hrs then 20 hrs the next two. I've been in the gym whilst doing it or training at home.

Today, I felt shocked at my body, literally shaking and breaking into sweats at 16 hrs again, so helt I had to eat. Pretty annoyed to be honest as I've been taking on fluids of water and fresh lemon and lime juice and black coffee.

Not sure what happened, but I'm pushing myself again tomorrow. I want to do 36 hrs by a month's time.

Sack the gym...training in a fasted state is good clickbait...try restoring in a fasted state or stretch.

Isn't that what I'm doing...?

Or do you mean train fed and recover by not training or eating for 24 hrs or more? I kind of do the latter anyway as in a small training session before I sleep then have a fasted period in which I might include a workout.

Be still whilst fasting...youre restoring

When you stretch dont over do it...like a cat getting up on a new day...within five little flosses it resets itself to the previous day ( pandiculation).
If your stretch positions are new or obtuse youll tell your nervous system you value whatever part of your anatomy youre targeting ( wise to target the obtuse)

Interesting.

Thanks.

21 pounds down now. And under 16 stone for tye first time in many years. Really enjoying the process and this is the only diet that seems to have worked for me. Just have my tea and that’s it. Feel a bit hungry in the afternoon but so much better than feeling sluggish. I am targeting 90kg and I am six foot with big broad shoulders so think will look ok at that.

Spot on.

The average GP knows the very basics where diet and nutrition are concerned.Your family Doc is a great resource, but be careful, they aren't the oracle by any stretch......far too many take their word as gospel or simply follow their lead without question.

I thought I'd post this for those who find fasting too difficult.

Bit of logic and a bit of motivation for pitfalls and trying to avoid them...

Always worth listening to (Dr) Mike Israetel (crap Jokes aside) one of the most knowledgeable people out there, and glad he made such a big song and dance about point No8, really is where your fat loss attempts either fail or succeed.

It’s definitely the easiest “diet” to follow to restrict calorie intake without fucking about counting them.

Also works well for other health benefits such as the potential to reduce heart disease, decrease blood sugar, and reduce inflammation.

I’ve been doing OMAD for a few years now and once you’re past the first few weeks, it’s very easy to maintain. I’ll have the odd lunch if I’m away on a holiday but that’s about it.

Lovely comments and nice to hear from you my friend.

What does Omad stand for??

The “One Meal a Day” diet, or OMAD diet, claims to help you lose weight by forcing your body to burn fat. It's a type of intermittent fasting, which alternates between periods throughout the day in which you can eat anything and periods in which you don't eat at all.

One meal a day.
Does that not affect you energy?

I do feel if you're squashing your window down a fair bit you could potentially skip a meal.
I had a late lunch and then an early evening meal (lunch at 2, meal at 6) and was still fairly full from the 2pm meal.

Could've feasibly skipped that evening meal, or at least substantially reduced it.

Then again, I'm training and running a lot more now so the balance seems right.
Few pounds to go before I feel I'm at my optimum 'look and feel' (rather than weight, which I barely ever look at).

After this, less calorie intakes and I'll start looking skinny assed....
