The Harry and Meghan fuss

Which bit?
Nearly all of it. Take a look outside the window now or a walk down the street; the sky is blue, the Sun is shining, it’s warm and there’s a nice breeze in the air, people have smiles on their faces, a few will have nodded and said ‘good morning’, go down the pub after work, people will be laughing, a good tune will be out on the jukebox, maybe pop in to see your Mam before heading home and see what she’s been up to and have a few laughs and a brew, ask your Dad what he thinks about Kovačić and any other a City singings and remember that City have just won a treble, have something nice for tea… what else matters?

Everything else is immaterial.

Where are you living, who’s in your life and what do you concentrate on that makes you think this country is in a sorry state?

Our lives are what we make of them and who we surround ourselves with, not what’s trending on social media, what the media is saying or what the politicians are up to. As long as the street lights are on, the politicians barely make a difference in my life from day-to-day.

Great Britain is seriously not what the Politics Subforum makes it out to be.

Lmao where are you because Manchester isn’t sunny right now? So you’ve just described a fraction of good things that don’t affect most and rather subjective. But how do you know I don’t do most of those things anyway?
But I’d say school, nurse, and train strikes affect most. Government policy (the reason these strikes are happening) affect most. I’ve never been in any of the politics specific threads on here but that’s based on my personal experience.
Anyway this is the Meghan and Harry thread so I won’t go down a rabbit hole.

It’s nice and sunny in the lovely Wythenshawe Garden City this morning!

The state of the NHS, for a start, affects every last one of us. Even those with lavish medical insurance, as the private hospitals don't do emergencies. So that's at least one thing to worry about, even if you don't give a fuck about the general state of the country or its longer-term future. (As an OAP, and relatively minted, I could take a view that a lot of the stuff around, say, the housing crisis, or education, don't matter. Or I could if I was entirely self-centred.)

The 'royal family' is a distraction from reality. That is its principal function, it is part of the 'bread and circuses' provided by the state to help keep the rabble from kicking off. 'Harry and Meghan' are just a different type of distraction from 'William and Kate'. One is held up for you to hate; the other is held up for you to admire and hero worship. If you can't see this theatre for what it is, I can't help you, but for me, it's as obvious on the strings on the Woodentops when I was a kid. As individuals, I don't think one of the pairs is better or worse than the other. There are skeletons in cupboards, but only one lot gets pulled out for you to be outraged about; the other lot is carefully veiled in secrecy, though everyone outside the UK has the full SP. It amazes me that people can't see the manipulation, but as we have frequently seen in recent years, people prefer comfortable delusion to the alternative of facing hard facts.

Totally get this - but if some feel the treatment of Meghan has gone too far? should everyone just ignore it all and just let the media hate campaign continue ?

The hosts of a neo-Nazi podcast who launched an attack on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's son Archie have been convicted of terrorism offences.

Christopher Gibbons, 38, and Tyrone Patten-Walsh, 34, both face jail after being found guilty of encouraging acts of terrorism on Friday, following a trial at Kingston Crown Court.

Gibbons described Archie as an "abomination that should be put down" in the podcast, which the pair used to voice their hatred of mixed race marriages.

And people are still struggling to see why they left the country…

Wait. Back up. There were strings on the Woodentops?
