The problem Phil now has is this.

We all agree he's wasted as a winger. Saka is a winger. So he'll start on the right. Obviously Kane in the centre.

Bellingham seems to be the player who will play in front of the 2 holding midfielders.

That leaves the left. Grealish, Foden and Rashford. Obviously Phil is the best footballer of the 3 but is he best suited to play there in this England team. Kane's link up play with Son at Spurs suggests Rashford's pace might be more effective there.
On the plus side if Saka gets injured Phil plays. If Bellingham gets injured Phil plays. You could even make a case for him playing a false 9 if Kane got injured although that's probably a step too far for Gareth.

Most positive changes are a step too far for Southgate.

We all know Englands best midfield is Rice, Bellingham, Foden. As long as Southgate picks 2 DM s Foden won't play. Maybe after the Euros they replace him with a more progressive coach then Foden gets his chance.

It might be, but we’ve not seen if it would balance. Bellingham and Foden are high 8s. Would they do their defensive work enough?

It might work, but it might not.

Until McCoist pulled him up and said it was brilliant finishing
Credit to Mcoist,in the blink of an eye he analysed what happened and said how well Foden did.." just look at that, he knows exactly...EXACTLY what he was doing"

Mcoist, being a lethal , 6 yard box, marksman of old ..would have been proud of that finish himself.the drift into space, unmarked, the awareness to keep onside...and deal with a shot hit with some force in his direction and calmly but deliberately steer the ball a different path into the net.

Brilliant.

Like McCoist as a commentator because he loves his football and tends to focus on positives. Raved about Fodens play on a few occasions last night.

Mccoist, he's generally fair I think, although before last night he's been a bit off this season.

Foden looks full of confidence, and for the rest of the league that should be fucking terrifying
