Wolves PL (A) | Post Match Discussion

Nothing wrong with the team today, any team in the world would miss Rodders. As said a few posts ago, it was all down to poor application. We were slow, ponderous and we need to be clinical and take our chances.

Reuben was unlucky, his interception could have gone in any direction. We can complain about referees, there have been some appalling decisions in our games, but we had enough of the ball to lessen the refs influence and we didn’t use it.

We didn’t work hard enough and we didn’t want it enough.

Need a good performance on Wednesday to set us up for next weekend.
Agree with all of that

today i blame whover decided to change things at half time. we were controlling it the whole first half, but after we removed one of our two midfielders the game became more even and we still failed to create chances
The only one to blame for half time is Pep.
His petulance with officials got him suspended so was unable to control things today.
I know its in his nature to be involved but we really need him to be with the team on a match day, especially after missing a few games due to his back operation.
Today we were missing possibly our 3 most individual people, Pep, KDB and Rodri.

I'm not loving the seeming loss of discipline of late, it's very unlike us. From Rodders to Pep and everything in-between, I'll be glad when we get a fucking grip again.
I do find it puzzling. We're generally well-disciplined and showed great restraint in the face of severe provocation against Atletico, so it seems a bit strange lately that we're losing our cool. Pep looks a bit irritable at the moment but he is human. I'm sure he'll be fine in the fullness of time.

Shocking ref but we've had 23 shots on goal and 70% possession...
At last! someone has noted that we had 23 shots and 70% possession. Yes, our shooting was abysmal but surely Wolves were not so great with only one shot on target and 30 % possession. Pep picked his best available team and I agreed with his selection. Wolves usually have a lot of possession themselves e.g against Liverpool whom they ran ragged before losing 3-1 in a game THEY should have won. I'm disappointed too at our shooting today but come on - we were not as bad as people here are suggesting. Bad day at the office but for people here to say Wolves deserved to win - what nonsense. Thank you inbetween for your post.

The games keep coming. It's a bad result at times you want Erling more involved than today but that's what we have seen since he's been at the club. Not creating enough or not scoring our chance maybe over looking teams no doubt Pep will drop a few for the mid week game. The OG is unfortunate and there 2nd goal was no where near the level of defending we have shown.
It be interesting to see how we line up in the next 2 games. Maybe a shift in formation a little tweak but we were never going to win every game we played in the league it's impossible. These injuries have been hard with both KDB and Silva out there the but of class we miss along with Rodri in midfield that control our game and dictate our play. Also players out of form it's hard to keep going and keep the hunger in the team to win. So this season maybe we are believing we only need to turn up to win and not put the effort in to win it.

A shit referee again BUT we were out fought all over the park. Static platers slowly advancing onto a massed defence -what's the point. Midfield was easily overrun with the pace and aggression of Wolves . Seen it before but opponent's now see the blueprint to get something,

In a brighter point, dippers have just lost to a last minute own goal. Haha, the football gods eh?
To be fair there Ref and var were worse than ours. Another apology from Pigmol no doubt.
Today we had zero from midfield
Our subs didn't improve us including Jack. Akanji and Alverez didn't deserve to lose. CTID

And just like that. Not a mention of the Hwang 2nd yellow on MOTD. Wankers
Or the commentator as he was quickly out just after him saying "and that's a frre kick".
Richards seemed like a Cheshire cat as well when going on about how quiet Haaland was

I think we’re a victim of our own success.
Standards are so high with this team that an occasional stinker like this amplifies some kind of self entitlement.
How many times have we lost like this infact how many times have we lost games?
We are the team that everyone wants to beat with any means necessary.
Yes the ref was wank and the wolves play acting is nothing weve not seen before but we can’t win em all.
We’ve been through bad spells before and the boss will get it right, he’s not immune from criticism and rightly so.
We don’t need to look far to see things could be a whole lot worse.

I’d agree up to the point of taking chances. We didn’t fucking create any, that’s the worrying point. We were woeful in the final third again and that’s the worry for me.
I think it's a worry in the short-term but we will click at some point. This was probably the first game of the season where we've created little, just as Fulham was the only game when we were ruthless with the chances we had. The rest has been deserved wins but with a host of chances not taken. In spite of this we still find ourselves top of the pile. We're also decimated by absences in midfield of four world class players. These sorts of games hurt but we know that they do happen from time to time. As long as we're in the hunt come January then I reckon we'll be fine.

Give over.

More worries today than Pawson.

Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez (apart from the goal) ect they were shite.

They weren't shite, they just couldn't break down their two banks of five. That defence was solid, but it was aided and abetted by Pawson who gave them the confidence to go in hard on us because they knew he'd be more lenient.

He 100% effected the outcome of that game when he booked Walker early doors then failed to book the Wolves player for similar. Let them get away with kicking the ball away at the breakdown, yet booked Alvarez for the same thing.

When he failed to give a Wolves player a second clear yellow, who then went and scored the winner, you can't say that defeat was nothing to do with the referee. Scudamore's 'strategic plan' in full swing. That game was NOT a level playing field.

Agree with this. I can’t help thinking that the frustration is borne out of the regular players sensing the lack of genuine quality we have now. We have lost truly exceptional players and the replacements are good players but not top level. Rodri as much as said this recently. I feel Pep is frustrated by it too. Hopefully we get Silva and Stones back soon as we can’t compete with today’s midfield. Grealish will be better with more fitness and we need his ability and drive. Doku may prove to be a decent player but he’s not at the level yet. We need to settle on our midfield and make pragmatic decisions on those who will not take us forward.
