Cost of living crisis - how are you all doing?

fine - 3 of us with incomes in the house plus savings - eventually things will level out or civil unrest will change things but I am confident we can last out either. I really feel for people who are genuinely struggling but I struggle to see why people are allowing themselves to be cowed by fear mongering news reports - neighbour down the road owns house and I would estimate they have somewhere between 60 and 80k in combined incomes given their jobs. You walk past the house at night they have a couple of lamps on and are wearing like weird hoody/dressing gowns - the absence of steam from the flue makes me assume they don't have the heating on. Whereas on the drive there's a Merc a new AygoX and a 2 year old Peugeot - they are not too skint to afford a bit of heating !!!

I'll post in here as Hotukdeals aren't allowed to post insurance deals atm.

Go on post office life insurance use code LIFE223 and take out the lowest quote mine is £7.54 a month after 6 months of paid premiums you will get a £100 gift card I will be choosing amazon. You then just cancel the insurance and you make a profit.

Can also go via TCB for a potential £70 in cash too. Easy money for 5 minutes work.

I have no debt at all so interest rate increases not an issue. I sold my car last year because I rarely use it. I borrow my sons now if I need one. I have noticed eating out and booze going up and this has prompted me to go out less. I used to eat out 2-3 times a week and now only once. If many are like me then many places will shout down. A real shame but you only have so much spare cash to spend each month.

It’s quieter round here in terms of Asda, cafes and pubs. There can just be a handful in drinking on a Saturday night and is sometimes just too soul destroying to go in.

I’m ok but have deleted taxis, betting and takeaway delivery from my phone to stop me wasting money.

As I’m paid weekly then there’s usually a few quid for anything needed.

Is he talking about the same father in law who he sacked from the business and who then went to prison for hacking Ramsay’s emails?

Went out last Saturday day/night you wouldn’t think there was a cost of living crisis, it was fucking heaving and it ain’t cheap to drink or eat.

Vast majority it was probably a rare treat. Seems busy because population is rife and there is less establishments.

Said this to the missus too. In fairness it’s been like this ever since the gradual decline of Covid.

Especially Friday & Saturday nights loads of people are out & about eating & drinking even though prices have shot up. Has everyone else got a pay rise & I haven’t or most likely scenario it’s all been paid on credit.

Was in Manchester on Saturday and it was battered, I got the train home at 6:30 and you couldn't move in the station.

Bought a Dreamland Elecrtic throw, £50. Going to wrap myself up in that whilst watching the TV in the coming Winter months whilst the central heating is off. Already using the electric blanket on my bed. Pence instead of pounds.

Struggling at the moment. Split up with my wife in February and I’m currently paying rent + bills and also continuing to pay my share of the mortgage and money towards my kids so that they still have a roof over their heads and food on the table.

Sorry to hear about your issues mate hopefully things get better for you next year.

What a coincidence everyone goes out for their rare treat exact same time as I go for mine. And every time I just go out for a basic walk too.

Cities in general seem to become more affluent whilst towns decline. In my home village, we’ve gone from three pubs to one etc. Now in Prenton it’s dead whilst Liverpool is usually busy.

I’d argue lots of people flock to Manchester as everything is there. Shows to sport pretty much every weekend.
