Joshua Kimmich

We are in a pickle right now with a January transfer.

One or two injuries & our season will unravel. No transfers could be a big gamble

Kev & doku back but anything can happen to either of them in the coming weeks. Stones in & out just can’t be relied upon sadly.

We need at least 2 players for me but how that affects long term & the summer plans is the real issue.

On paper we don’t need anybody but lose Rodri or Kev again & we are in trouble
We could say that every January though, to be fair. Pep won’t have a big squad, so if injuries happen, we will just play someone else there.

See Delph, Zinchenko, Fernandinho and Rodri as centre backs, the false 9 etc. as examples of adaptation.

I hope he doesn’t, even if we don’t replace him. Jacob Wright showed he gets our system better than Kalvin does at the weekend. Give him the minutes instead.
doubt we'll see him again this season with spurs in the draw, and the lads beck from illness before the next game.

Yup. Enjoyed Wright's composure and technique. Perhaps we already have Rodri's best backup :)
Indeed, without putting too much on the lad Jacob Wright looked mature beyond his years in his play and could be a ready made understudy to Rodders that will cost us no more than his wages.

Agree but the difference this season is other teams seem better & have more depth than pervious seasons for me. This has an impact if our players coming in are not as good as we need them to be.

I think pep needs to re think is squad numbers moving forward as others have closed the gap on us sadly

also next season there will be more games, with revamped UCL and Club World Cup

Aren’t better off than we were at this stage last season? I know I’d written us off after the 1-1 draw against Lampard’s Everton.

I’m not making the same mistake again though and will keep my powder dry this year!

I think we’d all like the safety blanket of another body or two, but it’s not Pep’s style.

We may buy more in the summer to cover the extra games next season.

You do understand we are only allowed 1 more player in terms of squad numbers ? The only problem with our squad is we need to replace Phillips with somebody that Pep will play. It's still better with more quality in depth than anyone elses.

A “proper Phillips replacement”?
A player capable of starting most games if needed or even improving us. I know they are completely different players, but I want us to sign a player that will give us the confidence to win games even without Rodri. This season, we struggled hugely without Rodri.

Not really. We were never winning the league that season.

Not with Fernandinho at cb and us looking awful at DM. Never understood how this happened, rather than be poor in one position we ended up being shit in 2.

What made even less sense was Liverpool making this exact same mistake with Fabinho just a season later.

Stones and Laporte were injured for most of the season and Otamendi also had spells out. That left us with Eric Garcia and the midfielders. Also Sané did his ACL.

Like the scousers the season afterwards, squads don’t tend to have 5 quality centre halves in them.

We adapted better than they did, but we were never getting 100 points in 19/20, so the scousers we always going to win that season, sadly.
