Gas & Electricity

Imagine if the trains worked like this. Just before you get into Euston a guy comes round and asks for an extra 50p to cover all the people fiddling their fares that day. What's the difference?

What if the Government made us pay an extra £500 a year in income tax to cover for all the tax dodgers in the cash-in-hand world plus the people who are millionaires but pay less than an office clerk? Oh wait, they already do that.

It’s 2023 and people Are being rewarded and obtaining octofuckingpoints for switching off their fuseboxes for an hour at 6pm. This country is well and truly fucked
I’ve not actually done it yet! I’m waiting for the wind up torches to be delivered first. I’m not a monster.

Little bit of positive news re the energy price cap. After a slight increase in Jan 24 to £1928 the cap is now expected to fall to around £1660 in April 24 followed by another fall to £1590.
Whilst these are still well above the levels back in the early part of 2021 the general downward trend is expected over the next few years.

The gas futures markets are also significantly down, so fingers crossed this should hopefully bring back some much needed competition to the energy markets.

https://www.cornwall-insight.com/pr...ts for the April 2024,January bills of £1,928.

The standing charges need to drop too though.

Just in time for a GE!! What a surprise.

When Kwasi Kwart(Bell)end was Business Secy and loads of the power businesses were going bust, he said they were commercial businesses and that is how competition works. What he failed to say was that the rest of us were going to pick up the bills for it. Can you imagine say, flyBe going bust and other airline customers having an additional charge on their tickets to make sure flyBe's passengers didn't lose out?

British Gas at it again misleading PAYG meter customers, to paraphrase, I don’t have to send in meter readings, all I have to do is make sure I top up AFTER the 1st January 2024 and I’ll be up to date (on the higher/new tariff).

Erm no thanks, I’ll top up BEFORE then at the cheaper rate and take my chances on it being cheaper in 3-4 months time.

It’s because energy is a necessity, flying isn’t. Therefore, there had to be an incentive for other energy companies to take on the customers who’s supplier went bust, potentially leaving them without gals and electric.

You can just use another airline whilst the fire sale of the airline that when bust was sorted out.

And be the same across the board, they said they went up to compensate for the companies that went bust, however if they took their customers on they get their money as well, at what point us the debt paid off? They should drop when it is but we all know it won’t, if anything put it on the price of the utility so the more you use the more you pay, the standing charge should be minimal

What? There's an energy supplier that provides gals and electricity? Sign me up!

We have just applied to migrate to Octopus Tracker from their standard variable tarriff which would appear to be a no brainer. Variable electric price is currently 28.62p kwh and the tracker is 17p kwh, with both offering the same standing charge. The gas charges are 7.62kwh variable and only 3.64kwh on the tracker.

It's a one year contract, however there is no charge for exiting, but if you do so you cannot rejoin for nine months. You obviously have to operate a smart meter, with tarrifs calculated midnight daily.

One of the easiest digestable explanions of Octopus's tracker tarrif is described here in full by 3 Fat Seagulls.

There is another tarriff tracker that re rates every 30 minutes called Agile and is currently 11p kwh but we're happy with the tracker saving over the variable at 17p kwh and 3.64kwh

Hi Guns, i'm paying 210p/m for gas and leccy with octopus. I think this includes 'extra' to cushion any big price rises?
I don't have smart meter. Can you find me a better deal from octopus ??)

Here we go mate. Head to the Octopus tariffs page.
Input your postcode BUT do not click get “Get a quote”.
Scroll down and click on “filters.”
From the drop-down menu select “domestic.”

The fixed loyal Octopus will be of little use, as the boys in the know are saying that prices are on the way down. Anouncement on the 23rd Feb I believe from the Cornwall Insight.
