Brentford (H) - PL | Post Match Thread

we deserved to win because of the clear cut chances we made.
Put that aside and there was a great deal to admire in that Brentford performance.
They were one of two clubs to come to the Etihad and play football against us.
They weren’t dirty bastards and there was little of the shinanigans we see every week wrestling Erling.
There play from the back was like watching us
Their goalie was as close to an Eddie distribution wise as I’ve seen in a while
Their press was consistent and effective
Their transition were quick and accurate.

It was a very good game of football.

Their keeper always plays out of his skin v us.

Must be trying to impress Pep.

But why have a captain when he might not play too many games
Players vote for the captain and the leadership team of which there are 5 in total. In today's football the fans seem to see the captain different to how the professions see it

xG = 2,17:0,97, shots (on goal) = 18(8):7(5), duells won = 36% : 64%.....they had a good first 20 min but but then we took over....between 60-80 min. we had so many good opportunities that it could have been an easy afternoon without sweating at the end

A win's a win, but was that the quickest goal we've conceded at The Etihad - ever! Can't think of another. But a concession via the bizarre still lurks in Beswick! Joe Mercer will have a wry smile on his face with that Brentford goal. Another goalie who brought his season's best. Probably won't make a string of saves like those this afternoon in another game this season. Haaland could have had his 100th and another hatters. I also thought that having had 90% of the bouncy balls, ricochets that Brentford would nick an equalizer.
Shearer, Newcastle ?

Just listened to MotD and the commentator was right for once - Wissa can't believe his luck!

And the yellow card for Kovvers! Fuckin' rubbish! He got a foot to the ball before he contacted the player. In the time available VAR should be checking over those, but it seems to me that the arbitrators don't give a fuck, and have built into the rules 'no appeals for a yellow card', unless the ref had booked one on the bench for the tackle.
I thought it was a foul and a yellow. It wasn't far off a scissor tackle and no way was he in control of his body. Some of our yellows are farcical but not that one.

Thought Brentford were the hardest team we’ve played against for ages.

Had more of a go at us yesterday than Real Madrid and Arsenal did, combined, last season (see, the rest of the football world, you can come and have a go against City, make a proper game of it and not get hammered 5-0!).

Well done to them and Frank, brilliant performance.

Ederson was brilliant yesterday. Haaland was everywhere (one of his best all round performances for us). The rest battled well against a very well coached team who played very well.

Good game of football that!

Hugely entertaining game, they were always a threat and a very useful team.

I personally think we are looking better than much of last season, Savio,a revelation and on the attack we are far less predictable and always creating chances.

Haaland and Ederson outstanding, both have moved up a notch from last season.

Are Rico and Kov injured?
It would appear to be a tactical substitution. However, I think a good case could have been made for taking off Gundog and Walker instead of Rico and Kov and replacing Stones as well.
Overall these three points could be huge for us come May.

Don't think so. more of a tactical change. Surprised he took Kovacic off though and left Gundogan on, who I thought today was poor.
i thought Lewis, Stones, Kovacic and Gundogan were all poor. the forward four appeared to have been told to stay high as Grealish was not tracking back like he normally would.

wide open down our left and the midfield ‘three’ including stones were all over the place. they were one-twoing us all over the park getting attacks going.

Tough side, Brentford. Frank is a very capable manager, and one to watch.
Their composure passing from the back is as good as anyone I've seen apart from City.
They deserve respect for coming and playing an offensive game.
Stones and Walker were a bit ropey today. They need to up their games considerably. 2nd half was better from them but only because Brentfords energy/pressing levels dropped.
The difference when Gvardiol and Rodri came on was stark. Rico played well and should have stayed on for Walker. Maybe Pep is wanting to get Walker and Stones playing more minutes.
Shame that Walker shot fizzed over the bar, it would have been a cracker.
Haaland is hitting legendary status, now. His composure is the best I've ever seen. He is ice inside.
Tough game, not a great performance, but a win is a win.
Oh, and the scousers blinking is a right royal bonus, hehehe!!!
Let's hope Spurs fuck the Arse tomorrow as well.
And one more thing... Ederson was outstanding!
I take on board your point regarding Frank. Could he be a candidate if there is a job vacancy come next July?
