The Labour Government

R/W meltdown over the Chagos Islands and Mauritius. Desperate tactic - all the Govt have done is signed off on an agreement already reached with the previous Govt. One of the leadership candidates really angry - guess who?

At the outset, headlines like this are nonsense.

Truss and Cleverly blamed as Starmer ‘surrenders’ key airbase islands

There's absolutely no blame attached to reversing a British bit of ethnic cleansing.

Also the idea that they would not have discussed Diego Garcia airbase with the Americans is for the birds. They are now claiming this is the start of negotiations to "sell off" NI. Gibraltar then the Falklands - they are so desperate to remain relevant they continue to make shit up

I’d start with Clacton.

Thatcher signed off on giving Hong Kong back to China.

I'd never heard of these Islands until today. So long as the UK Government (in other words, the UK taxpayer) isn't served with compensation claims from those that say they were affected by past events, then I have no objections.

Have we given up Sea Cow Island too?

Plumbers are grossly overpaid, just saying. But they still don't get to be earning £150k a year with a brilliant pension as they get more senior. Just saying.

Sadly, that's the market. To be fair to plumbers, they need to be trained and accredited.

Where I live in London, labourers are charging c£200 per day. Painters/decorators a tad more.

All political parties make shit up.

Diego Garcia was needed by the US for refueling the B52 nuclear deterrent, and used it as a condition of the deal on the Polaris mirv missile system. Simon Winchester wote extensively about the treatment of the inhabitants that were forcibly removed with no recompense. They were told they were going for medical checkups. They had british passports, but were treated as prisoners of war, were prevented from settling in britain, pretty shabby even for a british government.

I think it wasn't a case of giving it back, I think the lease ran out!
Indeed. Thatcher agreed to give HK back because of a legal agreement. Labour has agreed to allow people back after their illegal expulsion for geopolitical reasons.

Both are the right choice. The only people wrong here are the Tories and RW press wanting to perpetuate a crime against humanity.
